Abstract

Shields for attachment to; sighting-accessories; bayonets; attaching weapons to guns.-Consists in a shield attached to a rifle in front of the foresight. In the construction shown in Figs. 2 and 3, the shield 18 is attached to the bayonet guard 8 by means of a rearwardly projecting stud 21 and a spring catch 23. The shield is provided with orifices 26 for the purpose of delaying the passage of the point of an opposing weapon past the shield. The sight is protected by side wings 4 comprising apertured plates joined by a band passing under the barrel. For securing the bayonet to the gun, it is provided with a rearwardly projecting stud 9, Fig. 2, engaging a recess in the gun, an undercut groove in the handle engaging a stud 12, and a spring catch 13. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also the formation of surface configurations on the shield, instead of the holes 26, to prevent an opposing point from slipping past. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
