[Also in Divisions B1 and B2] An end-over-end mixer has a container 1, Fig. 1, provided with internal deflectors 10, 11 on opposite sides of the container and at equal distances from the axis of rotation AB; as shown, they may be of triangular cross-section, but the surfaces 8, 8a and 9, 9a may be transversely inclined so that when the container is upright one end of the deflector is above the other, and/or they may be curved, or the tops of the deflectors may be rounded or combshaped; the container may be so shaped that the deflectors form an integral part of the container wall, Fig. 7. There may be filling caps 5, 6, Fig. 1, or one or both end portions of the container may be detachable, Fig. 7. The axis of rotation may pass obliquely through the container (see Fig. 9, not shown); two containers may be mounted on the same shaft in 90 degrees phase relationship (see Figs. 11 and 12, not shown). In operation, the container may be accelerated as the materials are raised and retarded when they reach the uppermost position. The container may be of any crosssection and may be lined, transparent, or have a heating or cooling jacket. The apparatus may be used as a tumbling barrel by loading abrasives into the container.
