Abstract

1,005,046. Closure caps. AMERICAN FLANGE AND MANUFACTURING CO. Inc. April 16, 1964 [April 24, 1963], No. 15861/64. Heading BST. [Also in Division B3] A crown cap 1, Fig. 6, has a pair of score lines 16, 17 extending from the edge of the skirt 8, 9 and across at least part of the top 2 to provide a tear strip 20. A tear tab 5 is provided and the cap has a gasket 25 which extends into and fills the scores at 14, 15. The skirt scores are formed simultaneous with the bending of the skirt from a flat blank. To produce the cap a blank 26 is supported on an anvil 40, Fig. 3, while a die 31 forms the skirt 43 and while simultaneously a pair of knives 34, 35 on the side of the anvil effect the scores on the skirt, Fig. 3A. The knives extend at 38, 39 across the top of the anvil and effect the scores across the top when a centre portion of the die contacts the blank.
