Abstract

A product containing vitamins, antibiotics and growth factors which may be used for human and animal consumption, is obtained by coating a solid carrier of cereal or other vegetable origin in particulate form with an active culture of B. megatherium in a liquid nutrient therefor, incubating in the presence of air at 30-45 DEG C. for a time sufficient to complete the growth of the culture, and drying the product. The carrier may be cereal grains, soy bean meal, malt sprouts or brans from wheat, rice or corn; when cereal particles are used the product may be vitamin B12. The solid may contain proteinaceous material, e.g. gelatin, casein, or soy or cottonseed proteins, which forms an air impervious film around the particles on drying. An example is given.ALSO:A product containing vitamins, antibiotics and growth factors which may be used for human and animal consumption, is obtained by coating a solid carrier of cereal or other vegetable origin in particulate form with an active culture of B. megatherium in a liquid nutrient therefor, incubating in the presence of air at 30 DEG C. to 45 DEG C. for a time sufficient to complete the growth of the culture, and drying the product. The carrier may be cereal grains, soy bean meal, malt sprouts or brans from wheat, rice or corn; when cereal particles are used the product may be Vitamin B12. The solid may contain proteinaceous material, e.g. gelatin, casein or soy or cottonseed proteins, which forms an air-impervious film around the particles on drying. An example is given.
