Abstract

A calf food consists of 3 parts of a mixture containing, for each 73 kg., 46 kg. of whey powder, 5-9 kg. of yeast grown in a lactic medium and 22-18 kg. of the 35-50% protein material precipitated from whey, buttermilk or a whey-buttermilk mixture by lactic acid, and containing also supplements of mineral substances and vitamins, to one part of a maltose and dextrin containing powder obtained by hydrolyzing with amylase a 35% aqueous paste of a wheat flour which contains the germ and drying and grinding this hydrolyzed product. The whey powder is preferably from a cheese whey of acid less than 20 DEG Dornic. The yeast is preferably that produced according to Specification 835,544. The mineral and vitamin supplements, which may amount to 3% of the calf food, are exemplified by a formulation of pulverized fresh bone, calcium carbonate, sodium chloride and a concentrate of vitamins A, D2 and C.
