Abstract

1,004,347. Brushes. G. SHAW. Oct. 19, 1962 [Oct. 23, 1961; Aug. 15, 1962], No. 4949/65. Divided out of 1,004,346. Heading A4K. The stock and optionally also the handle of a brush are formed by melting the ends of thermoplastic bristles into a mould 63 in a vacuum or an inert atmosphere to avoid discoloration or degradation of the melted material. A screw 61 may be used to form a screw-thread in stock 60 for the attachment of a handle which may extend into the bristles at 62. Materials suitable for the bristles are polymers of hexamethylene diamine and sebacic acid and polycaprolactum. A different thermoplastic material may be added to the mould separately to mix with the melted bristle material so that less of the latter is required.
