A vehicle door is pivoted about the lower edge thereof and has a window pane 4 vertically slidable in guide-means therein and fastening means for the window pane consisting firstly of a keeper 6 secured to the lower edges of the pane, secondly of means for locking the pane in the closed position comprising a sector shaped bolt 10 pivotable into the plane of movement of the pane so as to engage the keeper, and pivoting means for the bolt which pivoting means includes a barrel-lock 7 and thirdly of means for latching the pane in an intermediate or lower position, comprising a short latching member 12 and a long latching member 11, each latching member being pivotably mounted and biased towards the plane of movement of the pane by spring means 23 so as to be engageable with the keeper when the door is open, and means 15 effective upon reaction with a member 22 external of the door, to urge the latching members against the bias of the spring means out of the plane of movement of the pane when the door is closed. The members 11 and 12 are pivoted on a common pivot pin 20 fixed to the door and the means 15 is an arm which extends through the lower portion of the door so that it is engaged by the member 22 when the door is closed to move the short member 12 which in turn engages a stop 25 carried by the long member 11 so that the long member is also moved. The barrel-lock 7 moves the bolt 10 through an eccentric pin 8 and a link 9.
