Abstract

Penicillins having the general formula <FORM:1004290/C2/1> wherein X stands for a straight or branched, saturated or unsaturated carbon chain with 1-10 carbon atoms, or for the group -CO.CH2-, the substituents R1, R2, R3, R4 and R5-either identical or different-stand for hydrogen or an alkyl, aryl, aralkyl, alkoxy, aralkoxy, hydroxy, alkylmercapto-, acylamino-, amino- or nitro group or a halogen atom, wherein two of said substituents can be linked to form a further condensed aromatic ring, and Z signifies hydrogen, or a cation of an inorganic or organic nitrogenous base, especially of an aliphatic or araliphatic amine or diamine, in which 6-amino-penicillanic acid is reacted with a compound of the general formula <FORM:1004290/C2/2> wherein Y signifies the -OH group, a halogen atom, preferably chlorine, or the group-OCOR, wherein R signifies a C1-C5 alkyl group. Examples describe the production of many penicillins of the above formula such as 6 (21-benzylbenzamido) -, 6(21-phenylvinylenebenz-amido) - and 6 - (21 - phenylethylbenzamido)-penicillanic acid.
