A waterproof anti-radiation composition is formed from a mixture of a bituminous bonding agent and one or more of the substances barium sulphate, lead, thorium or bismuth oxides. The mixture may be formed either by wetting the bitumen by heating, liquifying it with solvents or by emulsification. Other additives may be included, such as rock dust, paraffin wax, sand or concrete. Protection against radiations of different wavelengths may be provided by the use of several layers together, having different compositions. Containers for radio-active waste may be made from the composition.
