A roller card napping machine having a plurality of individual cards provided on a common driven cylinder 10 is characterized in that each individual card is independently positively driven at a controllable peripheral speed and is constructed as an electric motor the rotor 16 of which is fitted with wire teeth 19 and rotatably mounted upon the axle 14 of the stator 15 which is non-rotatably mounted in bearings 12, 13 secured on the cylinder 10. Each motor may be constructed as a three-phase A.C., singlephase A.C. or D.C. motor and its speed is controllable via a frequency converter or a ring core transformer with rectifier.
