Abstract

1,220,574. Control of A.C. motors. K. D. STEPHEN. 8 March, 1968 [9 Dec., 1966], No. 55386/66. Heading H2J. The speed and power factor of a wound rotor induction motor is controlled by a pair of oppositely poled controllable rectifiers 1, 2 in parallel with the or each rotor winding 6, and at least one further controllable rectifier 3 connected as shown so as to supply power to the rotor, at a suitable leading phase angle, from an A.C. source Ej which may be the supply to the stator. The rectifier 3 is fired one or more times while the pair 1, 2 are non-conducting, which may be during the first or the middle portion of each slip frequency half cycle. In one alternative embodiment 3 is replaced by a parallel pair of oppositely poled controlled rectifiers, and in another by a controlled and an uncontrolled rectifier in parallel, also oppositely poled, there being one such pair on each side of the supply Ej. The rectifiers may be semiconductor or valve type and may be either mounted on the rotor or connected via slip rings.
