Abstract

100,370. James, R. W., (Remington Typewriter Co.). Jan. 18, 1916. Type-lever machines; letter-spacing mechanism; case-shift mechanism.-Relates to universal-bar mechanism, and is described as applied to the Yost machine in which the key-levers 29, Fig. 1, act through sub-levers 33 on driving-members 37, which are mounted in a segment 89 and are pivoted to the type-bars 41. The members 37 act against pins 41a on the type-bars, which are connected by links 42 to a segment 44. The segments 39, 44 are vertically adjustable for case-shift. A curved universal bar 89 located adjacent to the segment 39 is actuated by shoulders on the members 37. The bar 89 is supported at its ends by arms 90, Fig. 5, pivoted to bell-crank levers 93, which are carried by brackets 95 secured to the segment 39. The levers 93 are connected by links 98 to arms 100 on a shaft 101 mounted in the brackets. An arm 91 attached to the centre of the bar is pivoted to a lever 104 mounted on the shaft 101, the second arm of the lever being connected to a rocking bar 26 carrying the escapement-dogs 23, 24. The space-bar levers 114 act on arms 112 on the bar 26. The ends of the bar 89 are guided by bent-fingers 115.
