Abstract
Platinum plating baths contain platinum diamino-dinitrite and the sulphamate of Na, K, or NH4. The bath is used at pH 6.8-7.6, and at not less than 3 volts. Plates up to 20m thick or more may be formed on e.g. titanium and used as electrodes especially where an anti-corrosive anode is required as in brine electrolysis, and will carry up to 300 A.S.Dm. without deterioration. The plated titanium may be heated in an inert gas at 500-700 DEG C., and then a further plating made. Ammonia or alkali is added during plating to restrict the pH range at 6.8-7.6. The grey film formed may be removed by abrasion with finely powdered NaHCO3 leaving a polished plated surface. Specification 856,405 is referred to.
