Abstract

Sodium chloride in the form of three-dimensional dendrites of bulk density 0.50-0.60 g./ml. is prepared by evaporation, suitably at 40 DEG C. under reduced pressure, i.e. 80\sB1 mm. mercury, of brine containing 0.0005-0.02% by weight of nitrilotriacetamide, or N-alkyl-b -amino-propionic acid in which the alkyl radical contains 8-18 carbon atoms, or a salt of this acid, or uric acid made alkaline by digesting in concentrated caustic soda until a yellow coloration is formed. Crystallization takes place mostly on the body of the brine and the agitation is insufficient to break down the crystals. Specification 667,101 is referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 871,456.
