Abstract

1,002,871. Bowling pins. NATIONAL LEAD CO. Jan. 31, 1964 [Feb. 26, 1963], No. 4167/64. Heading A6D. A bowling pin 10 comprises a die cast hollow metal core 11 having three sections 12-14 an inner lining of a rubber like sound deadened material 23, an outer covering of plastics material 25, and a nylon insert 27. Sections 12 and 13 are provided with integrally die cast reinforcing ribs 17a, 17 which are slightly compressed when the two sections are joined together as by welding. The sections 13,14 may be joined together by use of a resin-binding material e.g. epoxy resin. When the core is assembled a rubber like material e. g.foaming polyurethane spray is sprayed into the core through an opening 24 after which an outer layer of plastics material 25 is moulded to the core under pressure. Deformation of the hollow core is prevented by the reinforcing ribs. In an alternative embodiment Fig.3 (not shown) the sections are pressfitted together by engagement of teeth. If reinforcing ribs are not used, the outer layer of plastics material may be applied by a low pressure moulding process.
