A coin-freed coat hanger comprises hanger arms 1 and clamping arms 6 which are movable relative to each other and after insertion of one or more coins a key 10 can lock the two arms together and then be withdrawn for subsequent use in unlocking the hanger. As shown in Fig. 1, the hanger arms 1 are secured on a rod 2 which swivels on a carriage running in a rail 3, and U-shaped clamps 8 lined with foam rubber are pivoted on the arms 6, the latter being fixed to a member 5 slidable on the rod 2. A pawl in the member 5 is lockable by the key 10 in engagement with rack teeth 9 on the rod. As shown in Fig. 4, the coin-insertion and locking device is provided on the rod 2<SP>1</SP>, the lower portion of the rod forming a coin box, and a counter 20 is also provided. The member 5<SP>1</SP> carrying arms 6<SP>1</SP> with dished clamping members 8<SP>1</SP> has a pair of inturned arms sliding in slots in the rod and one of the arms carries a pawl engaged with a rack within the rod and lockable in engagement.
