[Also in Division E2] Coat hangers are mounted on rails 1 by rollers 3 and a swivel joint 5 and comprise a carrier yoke 2 and a securing yoke 8, the latter being slidable vertically on a pair of bars 6 and carrying a lock 7 which requires insertion of a coin before its key 9 can be removed. A customer first hangs his coat on the yoke 2 and then pulls down the yoke 8 from its upper position in which it has been held by balls 40 in notches 38. A coin inserted in a channel 22 falls into a passageway 23 which is formed in a slide 21 and has one wall defined by a leaf spring 24 and, when the key is removed, a bolt 25 fitted on the slide and entered in a hole 28 in the key draws the slide with the key. As the key is withdrawn, a wedge-shaped lifter 29 enters the coin passageway and so presses the coin as to tilt the spring 24 clear of the front face of a stop 31 for engagement with an inclined face 32. Should no coin be inserted, withdrawal of the key is blocked because the spring 24 is not moved clear of the stop 31. The spring also actuates a lever 33 for operating a counter. Initial movement of the key frees a bell-crank lever 14 and allows a spring 13 to move a lock slide 10 into engagement with teeth 6a on one of the bars 6 so that the yoke 8 is locked in position. Upon the later re-introduction of the key, a sloping surface at the front end pushes aside the bolt 25 and formations 19 allows the key to move past a tumbler roller 18 and engage the lever 14 so that the slide 10 is disengaged from the teeth 6a and the yoke 8 can be raised. Coins released from the passageway 23 fall through a funnel 41 into a box 42.
