Abstract

1,001,788. Gas-fuelled lighters. JACQUES KREISLER MANUFACTURING CORPORATION. Oct. 3, 1963 [Oct. 11, 1962], No. 38952/63. Heading F4F. A liquefied gas lighter comprises two regulating valves in series for regulating the flame. A valve housing 52 is welded into an opening in the top of a liquefied gas reservoir and gas is admitted to the housing through a port 60 therein. A dispersion plate 64 has a shank 66 extending into the port 60 and filtering material 68 is placed between the plate 64 and the bottom of the valve housing. The first gas regulator comprises a member 70 slidable in the valve housing and having a reduced portion 72 bearing against further filtering material 74 over the dispersion plate 64. Pressure is applied to the regulator 70 by a headed sleeve 80 threaded into the valve housing. An 0-ring 76 surrounds the reduced portion 72 of the regulator. The second regulator comprises a member 90 having a gas opening 96 which tends to close when the member 90 is squeezed by a pressure plate 98 actuated by an actuator 110 threaded into the headed sleeve 80 and carrying a member 112 having a hexagonal shaped periphery and extending through a rotatable element 116 supported in an opening in the top of the lighter. The upper surface of the plate 98 is formed as a seat for a washer 106 carried by a shut-off valve 108 extending upwardly through the actuator 110 for engagement with a block 122 carried by the snuffer 32 of the lighter. When the snuffer is swung upwardly the washer 106 is lifted by the gas pressure. In a modification, Fig. 5 (not shown), the stem of the shut-off valve is hollow and is urged downwardly by a spring. The valve is opened by a pivoted lever actuated by the thumb piece of the lighter and having # forked end which engages a valve lifter splined to the actuator of the second regulator and abutting a collar at the upper end of the shut-off valve stem. The liquefied gas reservoir comprises a lower portion 14 telescoped within and secured with a gas-tight seal to an upper portion 16. The thumb piece, the snuffer 32 and a flint wheel 30 and flint tube 46 are mounted on a frame 18 having legs 20 frictionally held on the sides of the upper reservoir portion 16.
