Abstract

1,001,659. Suspended ceilings. ASHMAN & HART PTY Ltd. Sept. 12, 1963 [Sept. 24, 1962], No. 36047/63. Heading E1V. In means to suspend a ceiling panel 9 from an overhead support 19 (on a detent 21 thereon) comprising a mounting element 8 on or fixable to the panel 9, a hook 13 pivotally mounted on the element 8, and an abutment lug 22 to limit pivotal movement of the hook in one direction so as to define an operative position for the hook 13, one end 17 of the hook 13 engages over the support 19 in use (Fig. 4), the pivot axis being so placed with regard to the end 17 that when the hook 13 is in or near its operative position upward loads on the end 17 tend to swing it in the said direction, the hook 13 being so shaped that, if the panel 9 were raised, it would be pivoted in the opposite direction (Fig. 5) by contact with the support 19 and disengaged therefrom. The mounting element 8 comprises an upward flange 10 with the hook 13 pivoted on it at a rivet 14, passing through a mounting plate 15 on the hook 13. The lug 22 extends from the flange 10 to be contacted by the plate 15. Restraining means opposes hook movement in the opposite direction but is overcome by pressing upon the hook 13. This movement occurs when the panel 9 is being positioned (Fig. 4) and is restricted by means of a guide slot 23 into which part of a support flange enters. The restraining means may be a friction washer on the rivet 14 between the flange 10 and the plate 15 or one or more complementary locking formations on the plate 15 and flange 10, or a mound 24 on the flange 10 over which the plate 15 may ride. The mounting element 8 may be fixed to the panel 9 by a flange 11 (Figs. 1 and 2) insertable into a groove on it and may also have a panelengaging flange 12 on the flange 10.
