Abstract

1,000,744. Hydraulic accumulators. PLESSEY CO. Ltd. Nov. 9, 1961 [Nov. 10, 1960], No. 38584/60. Heading F1P. An hydraulic accumulator comprises a movable metal partition 6, Fig. 1A, connected to one end of a cylindrical bellows 4, the other end of which is secured to the wall 1 of the accumulator. The ends of the accumulator are closed by end caps 2, 3 sealed to the wall 1 by welding, brazing, resin bonding or other means, end cap 2 having an inlet 2a for connection to a source of air pressure and having a cock and relief valve 2b, and end cap 3 having an inlet 3a for connection to a source of hydraulic fluid and a bleed port 3b by means of which air can be exhausted from the hydraulic side of the partition. The partition has a stepped cup-shape with one end secured by welding 4a to the bellows, the other end of which is secured by welding 4b to a projection 3d on the end cap 3. A perforated guide tube 5 is secured to the end cap 3 and extends approximately half the length of the accumulator. Rings 7 of metal or synthetic resin may be introduced between the convolutions of the bellows during or after production thereof to prevent deformation of the bellows and are provided with notches which, with the perforations in the tube 5, permit hydraulic fluid to pass to the space between the bellows and the wall of the partition.
