Abstract

An olefinic carboxylic acid or acids and/or derivatives thereof is copolymerized in the presence of free radicals with one or more cyclic unconjugated polyolefines. The acid or derivative may be maleic anhydride, maleic or fumaric acid or ester thereof with a phenol or C1- 6 alcohol. The polyolefine may be dicyclopentadiene, bicyclo-(2,2,1)-heptadiene, cyclo-octa - 1,5 - diene or cyclododeca - 1,5,9 - triene. The polymerization may take place at 20-180 DEG C. The free radicals may be produced by an organic peroxide, e.g. dibenzoyl peroxide, oxygen, by exposure of the polyolefine to the atmosphere or by irradiation of the reactants with ultra-violet light. The polymerization may be carried out in an inert solvent, e.g. xylene or in bulk.
