Abstract
Synthetic-resin impregnated carbon or graphite plates, suitable for lining apparatus for protection against chemical attack, are made by extrusion of a bar which is then fired and may be graphitized, and is then cut orthogonally to its axis into plates, the distance between adjacent planes of cutting determining the thickness of the plates. Impregnation with synthetic resin and hardening under pressure are performed before or after the bar is cut into plates. The plates may be rectangular or square. The thermal expansion coefficient, and irreversible thermal expansion, are the same in all directions in the plane of the plate, and plates may be assembled with narrow butt joints of cement.
