1000259 Electric radiant space heaters GENERAL ELECTRIC CO Ltd 12 Oct 1962 [13 Oct 1961] 36813/61 Headings F4W and W45D A radiant heater having a rod or tube element mounted with a reflector in an elongated casing includes a detachable face guard for the casing, the element being supported by arcuate spring clips on the face guard, whereby the guard and the element can be handled as a single unit during assembly, although the element is readily detachable from the guard. Element 1, constituted by a resistance wire 2 in an open-ended silica tube 3, is mounted near its ends on the face guard 7, which is screwed to the casing 5 by a pair of thistleshaped spring clips 9 which grip ceramic ferrules 8 slid over the tube 3, and is supported at intervening points by the slatted plates 12 also fixed to the guard. A chromium-plated circular or parabolic reflector 4 may be mounted either on the face guard or on the casing 5, and is supported at one end by a pair of pins 29 slidable in corresponding holes in a plate 30 to permit expansion. The heater may be suspended or wall mounted by two universal joint brackets 19, the leads to the terminal connectors 6 passing through axial bores in the bolts 21 which pivotally secure discs 20 to the casing, to which discs the bracket members 22 are attached. In a modification Fig. 3 (not shown) in which two separate, axially aligned elements are employed, the inter-connected ends are supported within an additional ceramic ferrule which is externally grooved to receive a wire support.
