Abstract

100,003. Fiat-San Giorgio Soc. Anon. Jan. 14, 1915, [Convention date]. Launching torpedoes.-Relates to means for setting the gyroscope from outside and consists in the provision of a key to which an axial movement is imparted by a series of links and a sliding shaft, and a rotary movement by screw gears and a hollow shaft, both shafts being operated by a common handle, the arrangement being such that the rotary movement cannot take place until the axial movement is completed. As shown in Figs. 1 and 3, the square head 8 of the shaft 5 of the adjustable part of the gyroscope is set from outside the torpedo tube B by a key 4, 9, which is slid inwards into engagement with the head 8 by levers 10, 11, and shaft 2, when a handle 3 is pulled out; lugs 6 on the shaft 2 are simultaneously brought into slots within a socket 1 fixed to a hollow shaft 2<a>, so that the key may then be rotated by the handle 3, shaft 2<a>, and gear-wheels 12 to give the desired setting to the shaft 5, the setting being indicated by a graduated disk 7<a> rotating with the hollow shaft 2<a> opposite a pointer 7. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes also an adjustable stop device to enable the same tube to be used for torpedoes of different lengths. This now forms the subject-matter of Specification 100,211.
