Projectile fuzes, apparatus for setting. - Relates to apparatus of the kind claimed in the parent Specification for simultaneously winding and setting clockwork fuzes by means of an axial key, and comprising a member for rotating the key of the projectile mechanically connected to a rotary driving member whose angular displacement is limited on the one hand by a fixed abutment and on the other hand by a movable stop carried by a. graduated dial adapted to be driven by hand independently of the driving member and to be immobilized in any desired angular position. According to the invention, means are provided for disconnecting an operating handle after each timing operation on a projectile fuze, a spring is arranged to be wound up by the timing operation and to return the driving member to its initial position when the operating handle is disconnected, and the device for setting the graduated dial is provided with means for determining automatically the angular position of the operating member of this device. In the form shown, two projectile fuzes are set simultaneously by one apparatus. The fuze of each projectile A, Fig. 3, is inserted into a socket b<8> on the top of the apparatus and is prevented from rotating therein by any convenient means. The key A<2> of the fuze engages a tenon c<2> mounted with a certain vertical play in a transverse slot in the end of the shaft c keyed to a pinion d, Fig. 2, in mesh with an internallytoothed wheel e<4>. The wheel e<4> has an external set of teeth e<5> in mesh with a bevel pinion f<3> in one with a sleeve f<4> adapted to be clutched to a central shaft x by means of a clutch member z on a plunger z<2> slidably mounted in the shaft x. The shaft x is connected, to a handle f<2> by a ratchet device f<8>. When a projectile fuze is inserted in a socket b<8> as stated above, it depresses a thimble y in the socket, which thimble, by means of a cam face y<1>, deflects a roller y<2> at one end of a lever y<3> ; and the other end of this lever moves a slider y<4>, which forces the clutch member z to its operative position connecting the sleeve f<4> to the shaft x. The handle f<2> when now turned in the proper direction will transmit rotation through the ratchet f<8> to the shaft x, and thence through sleeve f<4> and pinion f<3> to the rotating driving member e<4>, which sets the fuze through the pinion d until a stop s on the rotary member e<4> comes against an adjustable abutment t. When the fuze is removed after it has been set, the clutch z is disengaged by a spring z<3>, and the rotary member e<4> thus disconnected from the handle f<2> is automatically returned to its original position with the stop s against a fixed abutment r. The adjustable abutment t is carried by a ring n<1>, which has external worm teeth n<2> in mesh with a worm on a shaft o<8> provided with a handle o<4> and a graduated dial o<6> opposite a fixed pointer o<5>. The worm shaft is also provided with a toothed star disc o<7>, against which a sliding pawl v is pressed by a spring v<1>. A graduated dial is provided on the ring n<1> and is visible through a window a<1> in the casing a of the apparatus. The graduations of this dial correspond to one rotation of the worm. The dial o<6> indicates fractions of this rotation corresponding to the teeth of the star disc o<7>. The apparatus is mounted in the casing a and on a frame a' therein. The casing is supported by legs u; and the sockets b<8> are fastened on top of the casing by screws b'.
