FIELD OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to an antiperspirant cosmetic composition which combines exfoliating scrubbing agents, emollients and aluminum salts to obtain a stable antiperspirant cosmetic composition which provides protection against sweat and unpleasant odors. Furthermore, the present invention relates to the use of an antiperspirant cosmetic composition and a process for manufacturing an antiperspirant cosmetic composition.

Sweating, although a natural bodily function, causes wet spots to form on human skin and/or clothing. In addition, the sweat secreted by the sweat glands tends to form a bad odor due to its interaction with the many microorganisms that reside on the surface of the skin, especially the skin of the armpits. Both of these phenomena are considered undesirable for consumers.

There are commonly available products that can remedy both of these phenomena. Specifically, antiperspirant products have ingredients that inhibit/suppress perspiration, while deodorant products have ingredients that mask bad odors caused by sweat. Many products treat both phenomena simultaneously.

Active antiperspirant agents generally consist of salts or complexes of aluminum and/or zirconium, such as aluminum chloride and aluminum hydroxyhalides. These substances help to reduce the flow of sweat.

A wide variety of different antiperspirant products are available on the market, such as powders, liquids, gels, emulsions, soft solids, and sticks.

To obtain a satisfactory antiperspirant effect, it is necessary to use high concentrations of active antiperspirant agents. Such a concentration of antiperspirant active agents affects the stabilization of the cosmetic composition due to the interaction with the other ingredients, and can also cause skin irritation.

The stabilization of the antiperspirant cosmetic composition is also affected when the composition comprises exfoliating scrubbing agents such as salicylic acid derivatives. These compounds are in crystalline form and are not soluble in water or in the oils traditionally used in cosmetics. Therefore, they tend to remain crystalline in various compositions, which greatly reduces the bioavailability of the compound and the cosmetic composition. Furthermore, the presence of crystalline derivatives of salicylic acid results in formulations which are unstable due to, for example, sedimentation, and which are objectionable in terms of texture and appearance from the point of view of the consumer.

Documents dealing with the solubilization of salicylic acid derivatives have been found in the state of the art. However, as will be detailed below, these documents do not disclose the antiperspirant cosmetic composition of the present invention, using the specific combination of ingredients, preferably alcohol-free, capable of providing the benefits of the present invention.

US 6,159,479 relates to stable hydrated compositions of salicylic acid derivatives useful as cosmetic and/or dermatological formulations. In this prior art, the solubilization of salicylic acid derivatives in hydrated aqueous solutions for cosmetic applications, uses solubilizers such as octyldodecanol, which is not desirable according to the present invention.

CA 2138110 discloses the solubilization of salicylic acid derivatives in vegetable oils, such as flower and fruit oils, using a process which involves raising the temperature to achieve the solubilization. However, these oils are complex mixtures of many different classes of compounds, and this can affect the stability and cost of formulas. Additionally, this document uses a different process to solubilize salicylic acid derivatives (hot process).

In this sense, taking into account the needs of the current cosmetics market and the teachings of the state of the art, the present invention aims to provide a stable antiperspirant cosmetic composition combining an exfoliating scrubbing agent, emollients and salts of aluminum which provides protection against sweat and bad odors while maintaining the physical stability of the composition and having a cosmeticity and a sensoriality suitable for cosmetic/antiperspirant applications.

In particular, the invention makes it possible to obtain the desired antiperspirant effect in the presence of a high concentration of aluminum salts, an exfoliating scrubbing agent and emollients, while maintaining physical stability, which which has been obtained thanks to the specific raw materials and concentration ranges. Preferably, the antiperspirant cosmetic composition of the present invention is alcohol-free.

The antiperspirant cosmetic composition of the present invention provides good sensoriality, good spreadability, less thickness, shine, cooling properties, hydration and skin smoothness.

The present invention relates to an antiperspirant cosmetic composition comprising an exfoliating scrub agent, emollients and antiperspirant agents.

This antiperspirant cosmetic composition is stable over time (physical stability), providing protection against sweat and bad odors, and also obtained good consumer perception such as good sensoriality, good spreadability , less thickness, shine, cooling properties, hydration and softness of the skin.

Furthermore, the present invention relates to the use of an antiperspirant cosmetic composition and a process for manufacturing an antiperspirant cosmetic composition.

Other features and advantages of the present invention will become apparent from the following more detailed description of desirable embodiments which illustrates, by way of example, the principles of the invention.

The term “hydrophilic actives” refers to ingredients that are soluble in water.

As used herein, the term "at least one" means one or more and therefore includes individual components as well as mixtures/combinations.

All percentages, parts and ratios are by weight of the total composition, unless otherwise indicated. All of these listed ingredient weights are based on the specific ingredient level and therefore do not include solvents, carriers, by-products, fillers (preferably talc and perlite) or other minor ingredients that may be included in commercially available materials, unless otherwise specified.

All ranges and values disclosed herein are inclusive and combinable. For example, any value or point described here that falls within a range described here can be used as a minimum or maximum value to infer a subrange, etc.

Outside of working examples, or where otherwise indicated, all numbers expressing amounts of ingredients and/or reaction conditions are to be understood as being modified in all cases by the term "about". which may encompass +/- 10%, +/- 8%, +/- 6%, +/- 5%, +/- 4%, +/- 3%, +/- 2%, +/- 1% or +/- 0.5%.

Claims (10)

Antiperspirant cosmetic composition comprising:
(a) 0.1% to 3% exfoliating scrub agent selected from capryloyl salicylic acid, salicylic acid, salicylates, lactic acid and mixtures thereof;
(b) 3% to 35% emollient selected from isopropyl esters of fatty acids, selected from isopropyl myristate, diisopropyl adipate, isopropyl palmitate, diisopropyl sebacate and mixtures thereof; and
(c) 5% to 50% of antiperspirant agent(s) selected from aluminum salts;
wherein the amounts are based on the total weight of the composition. Antiperspirant cosmetic composition according to Claim 1, in which the aluminum salts are selected from aluminum hydrochloride, aluminum and zirconium tetrachlorhydrex gly, aluminum sesquihydrochloride, aluminum pentahydrochloride and zirconium, aluminum dihydrochloride, aluminum zirconium octahydrochloride, aluminum zirconium trihydrochloride, and mixtures thereof. Antiperspirant cosmetic composition, according to claim 1, in which it additionally comprises a surfactant and water, or a wax. Antiperspirant cosmetic composition according to Claim 3, in which the surfactant is selected from C ₁₄ - ₂₂ alcohols (and) C ₁₂ - ₂₀ alkylglucosides. An antiperspirant cosmetic composition, according to claim 3 or 4, wherein the wax/oil is selected from hydrogenated castor oil. Antiperspirant cosmetic composition, according to any one of claims 3 to 5, wherein the wax is in the range of 2% to 6% by weight, based on the total weight of the composition. Antiperspirant cosmetic composition, comprising
(a) 0.1% to 1% capryloyl salicylic acid, salicylic acid, salicylates, lactic acid, and mixtures thereof;
(b) 6% to 30% emollient selected from isopropyl myristate, diisopropyl adipate, and mixtures thereof;
(c) 12% to 38% of antiperspirant agent(s) selected from aluminum salts, selected from aluminum chlorohydrate, tetrachlorhydrex gly of aluminum and zirconium, aluminum sesquihydrochloride, aluminum zirconium pentahydrochloride, aluminum dihydrochloride, aluminum zirconium octahydrochloride, aluminum zirconium trihydrochloride, and mixtures thereof;
wherein the amounts are based on the total weight of the composition. Use of an antiperspirant cosmetic composition, comprising
(a) 0.1% to 3% exfoliating scrub agent selected from capryloyl salicylic acid, salicylic acid, salicylates, lactic acid, and mixtures thereof;
(b) 3% to 35% emollient selected from isopropyl esters of fatty acids, selected from isopropyl myristate, diisopropyl adipate, isopropyl palmitate, diisopropyl sebacate and mixtures thereof; and
(c) 5% to 50% of antiperspirant agent(s) selected from aluminum salts;
wherein the amounts are based on the total weight of the composition;
in which it is intended for the manufacture of a protective product against sweat and malodorous odors,
wherein the antiperspirant cosmetic composition further comprises a surfactant and water, or a wax. Process for manufacturing an antiperspirant cosmetic composition, comprising:
(a) 0.1% to 3% exfoliating scrub agent selected from capryloyl salicylic acid, salicylic acid, salicylates, lactic acid and mixtures thereof;
(b) 3% to 35% emollient selected from isopropyl esters of fatty acids, selected from isopropyl myristate, diisopropyl adipate, isopropyl palmitate, diisopropyl sebacate and mixtures thereof; and
(c) 5% to 50% of antiperspirant agent(s) selected from aluminum salts;
the quantities are based on the total weight of the composition,
wherein the process includes the steps of:
(i) in a container, dissolve the exfoliating scrub agent in the emollient(s) at room temperature, mixing well;
(ii) in another container, mix 50% of the aqueous phase with hydrophilic active agents;
(iii) to the vessel of step (ii), add the remaining oil phase/ingredients and the product of step (i), and heat to 75°C;
(iv) performing an emulsion step with high shear for at least 10 minutes;
(v) cooling the mixture and adding the aluminum salt(s);
(vi) add fragrance (if any) and other additional ingredients at 40°C, forming the W/O emulsion. Process for manufacturing an antiperspirant cosmetic composition, comprising:
(a) 0.1% to 3% exfoliating scrub agent selected from capryloyl salicylic acid, salicylic acid, salicylates, lactic acid and mixtures thereof;
(b) 3% to 35% emollient selected from isopropyl esters of fatty acids, selected from isopropyl myristate, diisopropyl adipate, isopropyl palmitate, diisopropyl sebacate and mixtures thereof; and
(c) 5% to 50% of antiperspirant agent(s) selected from aluminum salts;
the quantities are based on the total weight of the composition,
wherein the process includes the steps of:
(i) in a container, dissolve the exfoliating scrub agent in the emollient(s) at room temperature, mixing well;
(ii) heating the solubilized exfoliating scrubbing agent from step (i), with the oily phase, one or more waxes, fatty compounds up to 65° C.;
(iii) stir the heated mixture for at least 10 minutes;
(iv) cooling to 55°C and adding aluminum salts and other additional ingredients;
(v) charging the product for solidification forming the stick bar.
