Description
The invention relates to a vehicle comprising a device for protecting a rear axle articulated in its center.
Certain motor vehicles are equipped with a rear axle having a central segment extending transversely in the vehicle, said segment being extended at each of its ends considered along a longitudinal axis of said segment, by an inclined lateral segment. As a first approximation, such a rear axle has a general U-shaped profile, the central segment constituting the most advanced part of the rear axle within the vehicle. Each lateral segment of the rear axle supports a rear wheel and said rear axle is articulated at a central zone of the central segment. Such a rear axle form makes it possible in particular to release a central space under the vehicle, in which an engine of the vehicle can for example be housed. This type of rear axle is conventionally placed under the vehicle, and is found facing the ground. It is therefore exposed to all types of projections from the ground. In addition, such a rear axle having a somewhat complex geometry compared to that of conventional rear axles, does not promote the aerodynamics of the vehicle. This in particular results in an increase in fuel consumption.
A vehicle according to the invention is provided with a rear axle articulated at its center, of the type described above, while having good aerodynamics and means for protecting said articulated axle.
The subject of the invention is a vehicle equipped with an articulated rear axle, having a central articulated segment, extending in a transverse direction of the vehicle, said segment being extended at each of its ends by an inclined lateral segment ending in a rear wheel, said central segment constituting the most advanced part of the rear axle.
According to the invention, the vehicle comprises a fairing, fixed to said rear axle and covering the central segment and the two lateral segments, so that said train is at least partially masked by said fairing. The fairing plays the role of an extra thickness which would be applied to the rear axle in order to protect it from any projection coming from the road. Preferably, the fairing is made of a light material, such as for example plastic. The fairing is fixed to the rear axle by wrapping it. Preferably, the fairing is flat and of small thickness, and extends in a substantially horizontal plane, so as to promote the air flows under the vehicle. Such a fairing has no significant protuberance capable of creating turbulence under the vehicle. Advantageously, the fairing is dimensioned as closely as possible, by taking the shape of the rear axle so as not to unnecessarily weigh down the vehicle. Preferably, the fairing is mounted on the vehicle in a reversible manner, in particular so that it can be changed at the desired time. The fairing at least partially covers the rear axle, and preferably it completely covers it.
De façon avantageuse, le profil général du carénage est identique à celui du train arrière et a une forme en U.Advantageously, the fairing has an elongated central section intended to completely cover the central segment and two lateral sections intended to completely cover the two lateral segments. In this way, the fairing is dimensioned as tight as possible to completely cover the rear axle. Advantageously, the general profile of the fairing is identical to that of the rear axle and has a U-shape.
Preferably, the fairing is flat and of small thickness and is fixed under the vehicle so as to ensure continuity with the elements located under the vehicle. The fairing being present under the vehicle to promote its aerodynamics, it must not create with the neighboring elements located under the vehicle, a bump or a hollow capable of inducing differences in level, and therefore creating turbulence.
Préférentiellement, le point de fixation permet au carénage de se déplacer relativement au train arrière avec une amplitude, n'excédant pas 15mm.Preferably, the fairing is connected to the rear axle by means of at least one fixing point having a degree of freedom along a transverse axis of said vehicle, allowing said fairing to move relative to the rear axle. Indeed, a specificity of an articulated rear axle is that it tends to deform at least in a transverse direction of the vehicle. Also, in order to avoid the fairing from being subjected to significant stresses related to the deformation of the rear axle, said fairing is mounted on the rear axle with the possibility of moving relative thereto. Preferably, the attachment point allows the fairing to move relative to the rear axle with an amplitude, not exceeding 15mm.
Advantageously, the point of attachment of the fairing to the rear axle, also has a degree of freedom along a longitudinal axis of said vehicle, allowing said fairing to move relative to the rear axle. In this way, under the effect of the deformation of the rear axle, the fairing can move relative to the rear axle, in a horizontal plane, thereby reducing the risks of deformation or even rupture, linked to the deformation of the front axle.
Advantageously, the fixing point is produced by means of a screw passing through a hole in the fairing and a hole in the rear axle, the screw being screwed into the hole in the rear axle and the hole in the fairing being oversized with respect to part of the screw intended to be found at the level of said orifice. The fairing can thus move relative to the rear axle thanks to the presence of the oversized hole.
Preferably, the orifice of the fairing is of oblong shape. Such an orifice has a regular shape and is easy to machine.
Preferably, the longitudinal axis of the oblong orifice extends in a transverse direction of the vehicle. Indeed, the deformation of the rear axle is greater along a transverse axis than along a longitudinal axis of the vehicle, and an oblong hole oriented accordingly, perfectly meets these risks of deformation.
Advantageously, the fairing has two attachment points allowing the latter to move relative to the rear axle, said two attachment points being formed on the central segment of the rear axle and being aligned in a transverse direction of the vehicle. The presence of two fixing points aligned along a transverse axis of the vehicle, makes it possible to better distribute the forces at the level of the fairing, avoiding creating a stress gradient at the level of the fairing, which could lead to its rupture.
Another subject of the invention is a fairing for the production of a vehicle according to the invention.
A vehicle according to the invention has the advantage of being aerodynamic thanks to an ingenious fixing of a fairing on an articulated rear axle, requiring neither specific tools specially designed for this operation, nor complex manipulations. It also has the advantage of effectively protecting its rear axle from various projections coming from the road, without significantly weighing down the vehicle.
A detailed description is given below of a preferred embodiment of a vehicle according to the invention, with reference to the following figures:
- La figure 1 est une vue du dessous d'un véhicule selon l'état de la technique,FIG. 1 is a view from below of a vehicle according to the state of the art,

- La figure 5 est une vue schématique de côté d'un point de fixation d'un carénage sur un train arrière d'un véhicule selon l'invention,FIG. 5 is a schematic side view of a point of attachment for a fairing on a rear axle of a vehicle according to the invention,
- La figure 6 est une vue agrandie d'une zone de fixation d'un carénage d'un véhicule selon l'invention.- Figure 6 is an enlarged view of a fixing area of a fairing of a vehicle according to the invention.
Referring to Figures 1 and 2, some existing vehicles are equipped with a rear axle 1 of singular shape, comprising a central segment 2 extending along a transverse axis of the vehicle and two lateral segments 3, 4 each ending in a rear wheel 5. These two lateral segments 3, 4 extend the central segment 2 at its two ends considered along a longitudinal axis of said central segment 2. Each lateral segment 3, 4 comprises an inclined portion 6 and a terminal portion 7 extending along a longitudinal axis of the vehicle, said inclined portion 6 connecting the central segment 2 to a terminal portion 7. Thanks to this singular geometry, the rear axle 1 makes it possible to release a large space, delimited by the central segment 2 and the two lateral segments 3 , 4 for, for example, housing a vehicle engine. Such a rear axle 1 is articulated at the level of a central zone of the central segment 2, and has in particular the characteristic of being deformed in a majority along a transverse axis of the vehicle, and in a minority in a longitudinal axis of the vehicle.
However, this type of rear axle 1, because of its somewhat complicated geometry, does not promote the aerodynamics of the vehicle and is exposed to any type of projections coming from the road. It can therefore degrade quickly and affect the aerodynamics of the vehicle.
Referring to Figures 3 and 4, in order to remedy these two drawbacks, a vehicle according to the invention is provided with a streamlined fairing 10, which is fixed directly to the rear axle 1 of said vehicle.
La forme générale du carénage 10 est en U, permettant de distinguer clairement le tronçon central 11 et les deux segments latéraux 12, 13.Referring to Figure 3, this fairing 10 comprises an elongated central section 11 and two lateral sections 12, 13 elongated, extending the two ends of said central section 11 considered along a longitudinal axis thereof. The fairing 10, which is preferably made of plastic material by overmolding, is generally planar and of small thickness, said thickness not exceeding 8mm. The general shape of the fairing 10 is U-shaped, making it possible to clearly distinguish the central section 11 and the two lateral segments 12, 13.
In this way, the fairing 10 comes s 'between the rear axle 2 fixed under the vehicle, and the ground. Due to its planar geometry, the fairing 10 promotes air flows under the vehicle, and protects the rear axle 1 from any impact with liquid or solid particles coming from outside the vehicle, and in particular from the roadway. The underside 14 of the vehicle is comparable to a flat and rectangular face, being part of a substantially horizontal plane when the vehicle is on horizontal ground, and the fairing 10 completely covers the rear axle 1, without however emerging horizontally from the underside 14 of the vehicle.
As the rear axle 2 is made to deform and since the fairing 10 is directly fixed to said rear axle 2, said fairing 10 risks being subjected to significant stresses which can lead to its deformation, or even to its rupture.
Referring to Figures 4, 5 and 6, in order to avoid a potential deformation or rupture of the fairing 10, the latter is mounted on the rear axle 2 by means of two fixing points 15, 16 each benefiting from a degree of freedom along a longitudinal axis of the vehicle and a degree of freedom along a transverse axis of said vehicle. In this way, during a rolling phase of the vehicle, the fairing 10 can move relative to the rear axle 1 with a small amplitude, so as not to undergo significant stresses linked to the deformation of the rear axle 1. The two points fasteners 15, 16 are made between the central section 11 of the fairing 10 and the central segment 2 of the rear axle 1, and are preferably aligned along a transverse axis of the vehicle.
Plus précisément, la première portion cylindrique 18 de la vis 17 est vissée dans l'orifice fileté du segment principal 2 du train arrière 1, jusqu'à ce que la deuxième portion cylindrique 19 de ladite vis 17 vienne en butée contre une paroi 22 dudit segment principal 2 délimitant ledit orifice, ladite vis 17 ayant préalablement traversée l'orifice 21 du carénage 10.Referring to FIG. 5, each fixing point is produced by means of a screw 17, having a first cylindrical portion 18 threaded of small diameter, extended by a second cylindrical portion 19 having a diameter greater than that of the first portion 18, said second portion 19 itself being extended by a third cylindrical portion 20, the diameter of which is greater than that of the second portion 19. The screw 17 passes through an orifice 21 in the fairing 10 and an orifice in the central segment 2 of the train rear 1. More specifically, the first cylindrical portion 18 of the screw 17 is screwed into the threaded orifice of the main segment 2 of the rear axle 1, until the second cylindrical portion 19 of said screw 17 comes into abutment against a wall 22 of said main segment 2 delimiting said orifice, said screw 17 having previously passed through orifice 21 of the fairing 10.
Referring to Figure 6, the orifice 21 of the fairing 10 is oblong, and has a longitudinal axis extending along a transverse axis of the vehicle.
Il est à préciser que le diamètre de cette deuxième portion cylindrique 19 est inférieur à la largeur du trou oblong, et donc a fortiori, à la longueur dudit trou 21.Referring to Figure 5, the screw 17 is fixed in the central segment 2 of the rear axle 1, so that the fairing 10 is found at the second cylindrical portion 19 of the screw 17, between the central segment 2 of the rear axle 1 and the third cylindrical portion 20 of the screw 17. The width of the oblong hole 21 is less than the diameter of the third cylindrical portion 20 of the screw 17, so that it is said third portion 20 which retains the fairing 10 against the rear axle 1. In addition, when the screw 17 is mounted to fix the fairing 10 to the rear axle 1, it is the second cylindrical portion 19 of said screw 17, which is found at the oblong hole 21 of the fairing 10 It should be noted that the diameter of this second cylindrical portion 19 is less than the width of the oblong hole, and therefore a fortiori, the length of said hole 21.
To summarize, the screw 17 is first introduced into the oblong hole 21 through its first cylindrical portion 18, until the third portion 20 comes into abutment against the area of the fairing 10 delimiting the oblong hole 21. The first portion 18 is then screwed into the hole in the central segment 2 of the rear axle 1. When the screwing is completed, the second cylindrical portion 19 of the screw 17 is found at level 19 of the oblong hole 21 of the fairing 10. Since the diameter of the second portion 19 is less than both the length of said hole 21 and its width, the fairing 10 can move in a plane relative to the rear axle 1 to which it is fixed, thus avoiding to collect significant stresses related to the deformation of said rear axle 1, and therefore to deform or even to break.
Grâce au surdimensionnement du trou oblongThe first cylindrical portion 18 of the screw 17 makes it possible to fix the screw to the rear axle 1 by screwing. The second portion 19 serves as a stop for said screwing, and the third portion 20 serves as a body for retaining the fairing against said rear axle 1. Thanks to the oversizing of the oblong hole
L'amplitude de déplacement du carénage 10 par rapport au train arrière 1 une fois qu'il a été fixé à celui-ci n'excède pas 10 15mm.21 of the fairing 10 relative to the diameter of the second cylindrical portion of the screw 17, the fairing 10 is able to move in a horizontal plane, relative to the rear axle 1, to avoid the stresses generated by the deformation of said rear axle 1. The amplitude of displacement of the fairing 10 relative to the rear axle 1 once it has been fixed to the latter does not exceed 10 15mm.
