Description
OF THE INVENTION The invention relates to the field of drilling and in particular the drilling of wood; more particularly the invention relates to a rotary tool capable of making pilot holes in the wood.
De façon classique plus la matière à percer est dure plus l’angle de pointe est grand.STATE OF THE PRIOR ART [0002] With regard to wood drilling, the term "drill" or the term "twist" is usually used to designate the tool capable of drilling holes in wood. In addition, for metal, it is the term "drill" which is commonly used to designate a drilling tool. The drill bit or bit consists of a cylindrical body in which are made helical grooves; in general two grooves are present. The material or part of a cylinder between two grooves is called a listel. The end of the drill bit or drill bit which penetrates the material in order to pierce it, is pointed generally conical. The corresponding angle is called the tip angle. Conventionally, the harder the material to be drilled, the greater the point angle.
It is understood that a drill or a bit works by cutting the material at its end and that the grooves are used to evacuate the cut material, that is to say the shavings. So despite the apparent simplicity of a drill or bit, calculations and research have been done for a long time to improve and / or alleviate recurring problems.
Regarding the wood spin, it is a tool made from a steel wire folded at one of the ends in the form of a handle which is held in the hand and which is rotated to engage the pointed screw in the wood and thus prime the pilot hole. If this tool makes it possible to drill soft and thin wood, it is quite different from hard wood.
If a conventional drill is used, a cylindrical drilling is carried out so that the screw cannot create an effective thread ensuring the tensioning of the connection between the two pieces of wood by screwing, tearing in its path wood fibers. If the hole is drilled too small, the wood will crack as the screw barrel passes.
There are also so-called “self-drilling” wood screws which avoid the pre-drilling stage; however, this type of screw is expensive and as it is only suitable for a given diameter, the user is obliged to have at his disposal screws of several sizes, hence additional costs.
We know from EP 0 351 493 a tool comprising over its length both a wood drill bit and a stone drill bit, the first having a diameter greater than the second; hard metal cutting edges are also provided at the tip of this tool. Of course, such a tool is expensive because it juxtaposes the two types of wick.
Document FR 2 383 763 describes a wooden wick comprising a removable screw at its pointed end, in order to more easily produce pilot holes.
In the same field, the document FR 2 457 752 is known which relates to a device for drilling, milling and profiling in particular wood, synthetic material and which comprises a blade housed in a slot provided at its tapered tip. Pre-drilling is supposed to be made easier with this tool. However, it is known that any pre-drilling induces problems with the wood.
OF THE INVENTION The invention aims to remedy the drawbacks of the state of the art and in particular to propose in a new and unusual way, a drill for wood usually used for metal. The invention advantageously makes it possible to make pilot holes in wood.
To do this is proposed according to a first aspect of the invention a rotary tool for pre-drilling wood comprising a cylindrical main body provided with helical external grooves and at least one cutting lip and which has a tapered drilling end of tip angle of about 12 to 18 °, or even about 13 ° to 17 °, even about 15 °.
This is the adaptation of a metal drill, for wood; this adaptation is easy to implement; here we divert the known destination of the forest, in an unusual way and against many prejudices.
[0013] De façon préférée, l’outil est constitué d’acier rapide supérieur (ARS).Preferably, the tool consists of upper high speed steel (ARS).
[0014] En outre, le diamètre extérieur du corps principal est compris entre 2 mm et 10 mm.In addition, the outside diameter of the main body is between 2 mm and 10 mm.
According to the invention, said main body has a total length of between 40 mm and 120 mm.
[0016] Avantageusement, l’extrémité de perçage présente une longueur comprise entre 20 mm et 60 mm.Advantageously, the drilling end has a length of between 20 mm and 60 mm.
[0017] Par ailleurs, le ratio entre la longueur du corps principal et la longueur de l’extrémité de perçage est compris entre 0.40 et 0.60.Furthermore, the ratio between the length of the main body and the length of the drilling end is between 0.40 and 0.60.
BREVE DESCRIPTION DES FIGURES [0018] D’autres caractéristiques, détails et avantages de l’invention ressortiront à la lecture de la description qui suit, en référence à :BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE FIGURES Other characteristics, details and advantages of the invention will emerge on reading the description which follows, with reference to:
- la figure 1 qui illustre partiellement un outil de coupe connu ;- Figure 1 which partially illustrates a known cutting tool;
For the sake of clarity, identical or similar elements are identified by identical reference signs in all of the figures.
DESCRIPTION DETAILLEE D’UN MODE DE REALISATION [0020] Selon la figure 1, l’outil comprend un corps principal cylindrique 1 pourvu de rainures extérieures hélicoïdales 2. OF AN EMBODIMENT According to FIG. 1, the tool comprises a main cylindrical body 1 provided with helical external grooves 2. The prominent parts 3 which delimit the grooves 2 are called listels. Two helical grooves are provided. The end 30 of the strips 3, at the distal level of the tool, corresponds to a so-called cutting part. We also see in Figure 1 a tip 4 which allows to pre-drill the wood. This classic configuration of a wood drill resembles that of a concrete drill, except that the distal end of a concrete drill has a tip angle close to 120 ° for drilling steel. For illustration, to drill stainless steel, the point angle is about 130 °; for brass, we choose a tip angle of around 90 °.
Figure 2 shows a rotary drilling tool or drill according to a preferred embodiment of the invention and with a longitudinal axis X. The distal end of the tool is tapered; more precisely there is formed a so-called tip angle which corresponds to an angle at the top of the tapered cone forming the distal end of the tool. In a new and inventive way, this angle is chosen to be close to 12 to 18 °. We therefore divert the known function of a metal drill here. We therefore start with a metal drill which is a universal tool and whose lips (or cutting parts) avoid de biting ’the wood aggressively; it has been observed that known wood drills crumble the fibers of the wood, which constitutes an undesirable effect. Preferably, but optionally, the angle a of the tip is between 13 ° and 17 °. Ideally, the tip angle is about 15 °. It has been noted that a tip angle greater than 20 ° provides a pre-drilling of too large a diameter leading to poor grip of the screw in the wood and therefore to a low resistance to tearing. Likewise, it has been noted that a tip angle of less than 10 ° provides a pre-drilling of too small a diameter which can lead to the wood bursting when the screw is placed.
The material preferably chosen for the tool according to the invention is a so-called higher rapid steel. The term high-speed steel (AR), or ARS for "superior high-speed steel", designates a steel capable of retaining hardening at high temperature. This type of steel is used in particular for cutting at high speed (drill ...), hence the term "rapid", which is found in the designation in English: high speed steel, abbreviated HSS.
They generally have a high resistance to wear due to their strong alloy and the significant presence of elements producing hard carbides such as tungsten and vanadium. By way of illustration, the dimensions of a length of the tool according to the invention are from 40 mm to 120 mm. The dimensions of the drilling end have a length of between 20 mm and 60 mm. In any event, the ratio between the length of the tool according to the invention and the length of the drilling end is between 0.40 and 0.60.
Advantageously, the tool according to the invention allows great positioning precision, of the order of a tenth of a millimeter.
The tip can be machined easily and it allows easy and rapid initiation.
The invention further allows stop adjustments of the depth of the pilot hole, from the jaw of the chuck of a drill; these settings are quick, precise and efficient.
There is no bursting or splitting of the wood during screwing, even a few millimeters from the edge. The screwing is precise and presents no risk of slipping.
Thanks to the tool according to the invention, once the pre-drilling step is completed, the penetration of a screw into the wood is easy and quick.
Furthermore, the sharpening of the tip of the tool can be carried out using, for example, a reel equipped with a grinding wheel of fine-grained gray silicon carbide.
Against a prejudice that a very tapered tip would be fragile and unreliable, the tool according to the invention therefore makes it possible to carry out advantageous pre-drilling, especially in wood. Furthermore, another prejudice is overcome because the known destination is diverted from a metal drill, for an application for wood in particular.
