Abstract
Description
The present invention describes an emergency separation system for an animal coupling, to instantly separate the cart and the animal in case of danger. Today the team (definition: harness a horse, donkey, mule to a cart) is a dangerous activity whose accidents are always dramatic. In fact, an animal must rub along on the roadways machines that did not exist before, and of which he may be afraid: cars, trucks, etc ... On the other hand animals that were once harnessed every day do not are more than for leisure, and therefore lose the habit. In addition, the drivers of the team, most of whom practice this activity episodically, are no longer in control of those who used to hitch each day out of necessity. In addition, the animal and the cart are intimately bound by the stretchers and the harness. If the animal races and gallops, it drives the cart in its crazy course, quickly it spills. At best the cart is destroyed and its occupants get away with scratches, at worst they are ejected, seriously injured or killed. As for the animal, it is often seriously injured also by the parts of the traction system which still remain attached to it when the cart breaks. The traditional coupling being composed of stretchers, lines, traction chains, etc ... closely linked to the body of the animal, so impossible to release at one time in case of danger, it was necessary that the present invention connects to a hitch system with a single attachment point at the rear of the animal.
Figure 1 (photo) illustrates this coupling system, used formerly during light agricultural work: the harness of the animal carries a stretcher of one piece, in the form of tuning fork (2). This tuning fork is arranged in such a way that it always remains 10 to 15 cm behind the thighs of the animal, so as not to hurt it. At the rear of this tuning fork, at the tail of the animal, is arranged a hook or carabiner or other device (1) for attaching the tool. We can still see today, in 2009, such a model in demonstration at the National Asinerie of Dampierre-sur-Boutonne (Charente-Maritime). The solution to the problem of emergency separation was therefore to create a new piece, which I called "rudder" in the following descriptions, to be installed between the cart and the "tuning fork". This piece separates into two parts by simply soliciting a passenger from the cart acting on a joystick or pedal. The fixed part of the rudder remains attached to the cart, and the moving part remains attached to the tuning fork on the animal on the run. The description that follows will explain how these two parts stay together in normal operation, and how they separate in case of danger. Figure 2 illustrates the movable part, which consists of a chain (1), a locking cone (2) and a towing hook (3). The cone, the hook and the first link in the chain are linked together. The tow hook will dock on the tuning fork behind the animal. The size of the links in the chain depends on the heaviness of the pull cart. The number of links in the chain depends on their size; he will turn around ten. Figure 3 illustrates the fixed part of the lifter, seen from above. Its length is about 70 cm. It consists of a rectangular frame (4) made of hard material of approximately 40 mm section to ensure good rigidity. Side cart, the end of this frame (5) has a pivot axis (6) which is fixed on the cart so that the rudder can rotate freely 180 ° horizontally and about fifty degrees to the vertical. The freedom of horizontal movement allows the rudder to accompany the cart when it turns. The freedom of vertical movement is necessary to adapt to the size of each animal and give flexibility to each step of the animal. In the first third of the structure is fixed a "latch plate" (7) that we will describe later. In the second third of the structure is fixed a metal shaft (9) around which freely rotates a "board" (8) of hard material, a minimum mass of 1 kg. On the animal side, the end of the structure comprises a hollow tube, in the same plane as the structure itself, called "chain well" (10). A thread (11) on this shaft allows a ring (12) to move forward or backward. Figure 4 is a combination of Figures 1 and 2. It shows the chain (1) which, after being passed in the chain well, is hooked under the board by a system that we will see later. We see the cone (2) which is embedded in the ring (12). We see the hook (3), integral with the cone that will be connected to the tuning fork of the animal. By turning the ring (12) on the thread (11), the chain is turned on. Figure 5 illustrates, in side view, how are arranged the latch plate (7) and the board (8). Under the latch plate is attached a latch device (13). This device is moved by a cable (14) of the type of bicycle brake cable, connected on the cart to a joystick or pedal. The action of a passenger on this cable will open the latch. At this time the board (8) will be released and fall under its own weight, pivoting about the axis (9). The latch, pushed back by an inner spring like any latch, then returns to its original position. The latch has a beveled shape to be pushed more easily by the board when it is placed in a horizontal position. Figure 6 illustrates the position of the chain under the board. Below the front of the board, slightly behind the pivot axis, is fixed a pull stud (15). This is the peak that will hang the first link in the chain. This peak, made of hard material, is in the shape of a half-moon with a hollow not exceeding the thickness of a link, that is to say that it is sufficient for a slight tilting of the board around the axis (9) so that the chain leaves the peak and falls under its own weight. The chain is not really attached to this peak, but simply held in tension by the cone (2) which is positioned at the entrance of the chain well (10). The ring (12) serves to modulate this voltage.
Figure 7 illustrates the movement of the different items. We first see the closed latch (13), the horizontal board (8) and the chain (1) under tension. It shows in second drawing the latch (13) open, the board (8) which tilts on its axis (9) and the chain (1) about to leave the peak (15). It shows in third drawing the board (8) which has tilted vertically, the chain (1) which left the piton. At this time the cone-chain-hook assembly, which is hooked to the tuning fork of the animal, is sucked by the chain well (10) because the animal continues to advance. The rudder, which is no longer held forward, then tilts on its vertical axis (6). The cart, which no longer has traction, stops. We can understand at this moment of the explanation the usefulness of a chain and the flexibility given by the links. Because when the chain leaves the piton, the rudder begins to rock forward. Whatever the position of the rudder at a given moment, and therefore the position of the chain well, the chain will slide quickly through the chain well and be sucked out. A rigid connection would have blocked the movement. Figure 8 illustrates the physical principle of operation of the board. The board (8), locked by the latch (13) is in unstable equilibrium. It is solicited by two forces: a forward pulling force (F2) generated by the chain and a downward pressure force (FI) generated by a lever effect. This leverage is the result of the spreads (Dl) and (D2). The spacing (Dl) is the distance between the pivot axis (9) and the traction peg (15). It is a few cm. The spacing (D2) is the vertical distance between the pivot axis (9) and the axis of the half moon of the peak (16). It is a few mm. The force (F1) is extremely weak, and the tens of mm of the latch is enough to counter it and keep the board in position. But this force is sufficient to cause a rapid descent of the board when the latch releases it, especially since this force (F1) is added at that moment the weight of the board itself. The existence of the spacing (D2) is of paramount importance because without it, even with the latch open, the board could remain under tension with the chain and remain in a horizontal position, thereby preventing the release of the chain. As long as it is blocked by the latch, the board can not move and traction is normally exercised. To re-engage the system, you must catch the animal, detach the hook of the tuning fork, slide the chain-cone-hook assembly into the chain well, position the first link of the chain behind the peak, then lift the board until it passes over the latch (like a door that is closed by pushing it). This lift in the locked position is facilitated by the bevel of the latch. Then we can turn slightly the ring (12) to restore some tension to the chain. Then we hang the palon- nier again by its hook (3) to the tuning fork of the animal. The latch is not described in this disclosure because its operation is known. The chain can be replaced by a cable whose end has been turned into a loop to form an attachment point. This invention or its derivatives, if it is in the future installed on a new generation of hitches, will not only be able to avoid many injuries and save lives, but will also allow the development of the hitch activity for people who did not dare to go there for fear of the accident. With the current promotion of sustainable development, animal traction finds a reason to be for light agricultural work, leisure, collecting objects in some municipalities. This invention will contribute to its safety.
