Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to the cosmetics industry, with a particular focus on the manufacture of cosmetic products for skin care, particularly those parts of the body which are exposed to the outside because they are not protected by clothing. It also relates to the composition of such products, particularly in particular creams or lotions that are marketed for application to the face or hands in particular, but this destination is not limiting with respect to the application conditions of the invention. The plant extracts represent, in known manner, components of particular interest for cosmetic compositions. Their natural origin is favorable to a good tolerance. This is such that often their use, even repeated several times a day, does not cause any problem of allergy. This quality is particularly sought after for cosmetic products intended for skin care, more so for lotions, creams and other ointments applying to the face than for body products in general. The effects that the consumer intends to find in cosmetic skin care products are multiple. Not only does the aging skin become rippled with wrinkles, but it also suffers from pigmentary defects that punctuate it with what are called brown spots in everyday language, these small and growing spots that appear from fifty, both men and women. They are a major concern for many people. All parts of the body are affected, but the areas exposed to the outside are more sensitive, so besides that, as can be easily understood, the presence of such spots is generally felt more embarrassing when it s' acts visible parts of the body. It seems that in most people, they appear earlier and more numerous on the back of the hands. In this context, the present invention aims primarily to improve the effectiveness of local skin treatment products, but it also aims to simplify manufacturing processes and reduce costs at equal efficiency. The invention results in part from the discovery that the choice of starting raw materials for the preparation of the plant extract is of great importance, partly because of the discovery that the final properties are dependent on the distribution of the active constituents in the plant. the overall composition of the extract. A composition according to the invention is characterized in that it is based on a plant extract mainly from strawberry roots. In practice, the best results are obtained for plant extracts obtained exclusively from strawberry roots. It is obvious, however, that the notion of roots includes rhizomes. At the origin of the invention, the tests carried out on the extracts of strawberry roots showed a significant antioxidant activity, which results in the effectiveness in cosmetic application. The quality of the extracts for this purpose is for example much higher than that of other plant extracts known and used to date, which are based on vine shoots. It is such that it often seems advantageous to avoid applying the complex extraction protocols that are used on vine shoots, even if it means contenting itself with a lower concentration of recognized active principles, such as for their anti-inflammatory activity. -oxydante. In addition to the advantages of simplicity and lower cost, it should be added that the original biochemical nature of the plant is better preserved, the process of faceting being hardly any more destructive of its natural cellulosic structure. The subject of the invention is therefore also a process for preparing a plant extract with antioxidant activity serving as an essential constituent in cosmetic compositions intended in particular to combat the manifestations of aging of the skin, characterized in that Strawberry roots are mainly treated by lyophilization, with the exception of destructive chemical and biochemical treatments of the natural cellulosic structure. In order to obtain a final product to be marketed for application in dermatological cosmetics, strawberry root extract is incorporated as an essential active ingredient in a suitable vehicle of any known type. The final presentation is usually in the form of a cream, or in the form of a lotion, the active extract being generally in emulsion in the vehicle. The latter is eventually supplemented by any additive known per se, for example by preservatives. It should also be noted that using strawberry roots makes it possible to benefit from advantageous harvesting conditions, these roots often being available in large quantities relative to the desired fruit production and being easily accessible down to the ground, whereas in addition their picking is done without affecting the reproduction of the plants. According to other characteristics of the invention, it has been possible to demonstrate an incidence of the fine composition of the extract on the cosmetic properties and to select a variety of strawberry having a particularly advantageous distribution profile of the constituents. This is the strawberry "Mara des bois". In practice, the effectiveness of the strawberry roots is all the more remarkable as these extracts contain relatively few other constituents known to exhibit an antioxidant activity, such as resveratrol, which is widely present in grape extracts ( U.S. Patent No. 6,572,882). It seems that in the strawberry, and even more so in the Mara des Bois strawberry, the properties of the roots useful in cosmetology are mainly due to the richness of the vegetable matter in oligomers of proanthocyanidins.
It also seems that the antioxidant effectiveness in cosmetology is particularly important when the oligomers in question are present mainly in the form of polymers in the range of dimers to heptamers, and preferably in the range of hexamer trimer, this which is the case for the strawberry Mara des Bois. The results of analysis reported below confirm this.
They are based on samples of Mara extract of wild strawberry roots that have been prepared by lyophilization from freshly picked roots. In accordance with the method of preparation chosen, which is particularly easy to implement, the treated roots are simply cleaned, lyophilized and milled.
The determination of each sample with total proanthocyanidins (OPC) was determined by extraction in a hydroalcoholic medium and purification of the pro-anthocyanidins and then spectrophotometric assay with the DMAC reagent. The distribution profile of the oligomers in proanthocyanidins was then examined by extraction and purification of the oligomers of OPC followed by HPLC chromatographic assay with fluorimetric detection or with UV detection. The results obtained show a total proanthocyanidin content of the order of 10%. It is possible to increase this content up to values of the order of 40%, this by applying for example a more complex process, involving several physicochemical and biochemical treatments, such as that described for the grapevine grape. the US patent already cited, but in general there will be no interest for an industrial manufacture of creams and lotions in dermatological cosmetics.
The distribution of OPC oligomers in the total proanthocyanidins shows a particularly dense profile up to the heptamers, more particularly at the level of the trimers and hexamers. It is to them that we can attribute the antioxidant efficacy of the overall composition, as it manifests even at a low concentration of total anthocyanidins, while in addition the composition of the extract appears poor in ellagic acid, vitamin C, vitamin E and resveratrol.
The effectiveness of the composition whose analyzes have just been discussed is confirmed during regular use of a dermatological cream based on an extract of strawberry roots in which the Mara des Bois share is advantageously from less than 60% by weight, and preferably at least 80% by weight. Preferably the cream contains no other plant extract than that which is derived from strawberry roots. Furthermore, it being recalled that an increase in the concentration of the proanthocyanidin extract goes hand in hand with a more complex preparation process, which has consequences on the structure of the plant material and on the costs, it seems that a good compromise substantially corresponds to an extraction treatment conducted under conditions such that the extract has a proanthocyanidin concentration of the order of 10%, more generally between 8 and 15%, and can even be as high as at 30%. Concentration figures are shown here by weight. The best results in the context of these tests were obtained for products containing an active proportion of proanthocyanidin oligomers derived from the strawberry plant extract in which the oligomers in question are predominantly present as polymers in the range of hexameric trimers, and at best when the distribution profile is centered on the trimers and hexamers.
