Abstract

The slider consists of a support (17) on which the steering rack (15) can slide, a plug (18) that holds the support in an aperture in the steering box (13), and a spring (19) between the support and plug. It incorporates a damper (20) between the support and plug to attenuate axial vibrations produced in the slider when the vehicle is in use. The damper consists of a ring fitted between the annular surfaces of the slider and plug and stuck to one of them. The ring has a series of steel and rubber layers selected to damp vibrations in a selected frequency range.
