Description

The present invention relates to a headrest of modifiable shape for a seat, particularly a motor vehicle, and more particularly to such a headrest comprising a cushion mounted on a mounting frame.

Already known already </ B> such headrests in which, for example, the shape of the cushion can be changed to adjust the inclination, both for reasons of comfort for security reasons.

It </ B> can however also be useful to modify the concavity (towards the front of the vehicle), mainly for reasons of comfort. Thus, one may wish to have a relatively flat head restraint under normal conditions or, on the contrary, to have more support for the head, for harsher driving conditions or for passengers in rest situations.

The present invention aims to provide such a headrest whose concavity is adjustable.

More particularly, the invention aims to provide an adjustable concavity headrest, wherein the outer lining and the outer shell follow the deformations of the headrest.

A </ B> With this effect, the object of the invention is a headrest of modifiable shape for a seat, particularly a motor vehicle, comprising a cushion mounted on a mounting frame, characterized in that said cushion comprises two parts substantially symmetrical with respect to a substantially vertical central plane of symmetry, each of said portions being arranged to pivot about a substantially vertical axis of rotation to give to </ B> headrest a variable concavity.

In a particular embodiment, each of said parts is arranged to pivot about a separate axis of rotation, said axes of rotation being arranged symmetrically on either side of said plane of symmetry.

Alternatively, the two parts could rotate about the same axis of rotation which would then be located in the plane of symmetry. However, the use of two separate axes facilitates the deformation of the lining and the outer shell of the headrest and provides, in the case of a strong concavity, a better comfort to </ B > the user.

More particularly, said mounting aperture may comprise two substantially vertical pins, in which case said axes of rotation may be formed by said pins.

Already known already </ B> such reinforcements whose pins are engaged in sleeves secured to the seat back for adjusting the height of the headrest.

Each part of the headrest may comprise an armature piece, said armature parts each having a gear teeth, said teeth being arranged to mesh with an intermediate toothed part.

Because of this gear, the movements of the two parts of the headrest are coordinated. It </ B> is sufficient, in particular, to act on only one of the parts to ensure a symmetrical movement of the two parts. The intermediate toothed part makes it possible to ensure movements of the two parts in the opposite direction, that is to say that either the two parts approach the plane of symmetry, or they depart from it.

In </ U> a particular embodiment, said intermediate toothed part is a double rack whose at least one end is arranged to deform the lining of the cushion during its movements.

It is understood that this rack moves backwards when the two parts are close to the axis of symmetry. Thus, it facilitates the tension of the gasket on the side where it tends to extend and participates in the compression of the gasket on the side where it is compressed.

More particularly, the outer shell of the headrest may be resilient, at least in </ U> is likely to be deformed by said rack.

This avoids wrinkles that could be formed on the side where the pillow is compressed. We will now describe, as a non-limiting example, a particular embodiment of the invention in which: : </ B> - </ B> Figure 1 </ B> is a horizontal sectional view of a headrest according to the invention ; </ B> and - </ B> FIG. 2 is a partial perspective view of the mechanism of this headrest.

Figure at 1 </ B> a 1 Headrest Cushion, </ B> supported by a mounting frame 2 on the backrest (not shown) of a motor vehicle seat. The armature 2 comprises in known manner two substantially vertical tubular pins.

The cushion 1 </ B> is composed of a mechanism which will be described hereinafter, overmolded for example by an "in situ" process of a foam 3. </ B> An envelope 4, for example textile, forms the outside of the cushion.

The cushion naturally has a general shape in V whose concavity is directed towards the front of the vehicle (arrow AV). The mechanism inside the cushion has two elongated plates 5 </ B> and 6, each being rotated on one of the pins of the frame 2. Each plate 5.6 </ B> comprises, on the inner side of the axis of rotation relative to the plane of symmetry S </ B> of the cushion, a toothing 7 </ B> in arc of a circle, centered on the axis of rotation. Between the two teeth 7, 8 </ B> has, on each side of the S, </ B> a rack 9, </ B> each of the 9 </ B> racks meshing with one of the teeth 7. 8 </ B> (not shown to </ B> Figure 2) is guided in its translation by two plates 10 </ B> and 11 </ B> mounted on the pins of the armature, perpendicularly to </ B> them.

Thus, when the two wings of the cushion move in the direction of the arrows Fl, the piece 8 </ B> is driven backwards, so that its rear end 12 pushes back the material included < B> to </ B> the back of the cushion and thus promotes its extension. Similarly, the front part 13 </ B> of the 8 </ B> piece pulls the material to the </ B> from the front of the cushion, making it easier to increase in concavity.

Conversely, when the wings of the cushion are moved in the opposite direction to that of the arrows Fl, the piece 8 </ B> moves forward, pushing in this direction the material shown to </ B > the front of the cushion and drawing on the material appearing at </ B> the back of the cushion, thus facilitating the decrease of its concavity.

It will be observed that the envelope of the cushion comprises here two elastic bands 14 and 15, </ B> each extending on either side of the plane of symmetry S, </ B> which facilitate the deformation of the envelope in the zones where this deformation is maximum.
