Description

The invention relates to a mailbox comprising on its front face a

  frame delimiting an opening and a door mounted on said frame so as to be able to pivot around a vertical axis located in the vicinity of an edge of said opening, said frame being made of sheet metal and having on the edge of the opening distant from the pivot axis a wall which extends towards the inside of the opening and which forms the opening of said door, and said door being fitted with a cylinder lock carrying a latch the end of which is capable of s 'to hire

  behind said wall forming the door to lock said door.

  Currently, mailbox access doors are preferred targets for vandals and burglars during

their break-in attempts.

  To remedy this, it has been proposed to reinforce the hinges, or the frame and door structures. These reinforcements are reflected

  by an increase in weight and price.

  The object of the invention is to propose an improvement, easy to implement and inexpensive which allows the wall to be stiffened

forming the beat.

  The invention achieves its object by the fact that the wall forming the beating is reinforced by a stiffener which extends towards the rear of the frame and by the fact that the latch cooperates with said stiffener when the

door is locked.

  Advantageously, the stiffener is formed in a single

  part with the wall forming the beat by folding the sheet.

  The stiffener may include a window for the passage of

the end of the latch.

  Other advantages and characteristics of the invention will become apparent from

  reading the following description given by way of nonlimiting example

  and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: FIG. 1 is a front view of a collective door of a mailbox battery which has two openings for access to the individual lockers, one of the openings being closed by a door, and the door of the second opening having been removed for the sake of clarity; Figure 2 is a section along the line II-II of Figure 1; Figure 3 is a section along line III-III of Figure 1; Figure 4 is a section identical to Figure 3 which shows an alternative embodiment; Figure 5 is a partial perspective view of the rear of the

  individual door of Figure 3, in the closed and locked position.

  The drawing shows a collective door 1 for a battery of letter boxes which has a plurality of openings 2 for accessing individual lockers, each opening 2 being delimited by a frame 3 and being capable of being closed by a door 4 mounted pivoting around a vertical axis 5 disposed in the vicinity of an edge 6 of

said opening 2.

  When the door 4 is closed, its edge 7 remote from the axis 5 is housed in a rebate 8 delimited by a wall 9 which forms the edge of the opening 2 remote from the axis 5, and by a wall 10 perpendicular to the wall 9 and which extends towards the inside of the opening 2. This wall 10

  constitutes what is commonly called the beat.

  The frame 2 which plays the role of frame for the door 4, is made

  sheet metal by cutting, bending, welding or riveting.

  According to the invention, the wall 10 forming the beating comprises on its rear face a stiffener 11 produced by folding the sheet and which extends perpendicular to the wall 10 from the edge 12 of the beating, located

  on the inside of the opening 2.

  The door 4, which in the example shown in the drawing, comprises a wooden panel 13 mounted in a U-shaped section 13a, is equipped with a cylinder lock 14 carrying a latch 15. The actuation of the lock 14 at by means of a key 16 makes it possible to pivot the latch around the axis 17 of the lock 14, in order to lock the door 4 in

opening 2 of frame 3.

  When the door 4 is locked, the end 18 of the latch 15

cooperates with the stiffener 11.

  According to a first embodiment, shown in FIGS. 2 and 3, the end 18 of the catch 15 is positioned behind the

stiffener 11.

  According to a second embodiment, shown in FIG. 4, the stiffener 11 comprises an oblong slot 19 in which the end 18 of the catch 15 can engage as a result of the rotation or

  of the key 16 when the door 4 is closed.

Claims (3)

  1. Mailbox comprising on its front face a frame (3) delimiting an opening (2) and a door (4) mounted on said frame so as to pivot around a vertical axis (5) located in the vicinity of a edge (6) of said opening (2), said frame (3) being made of sheet metal and having on the edge of the opening, distant from the pivot axis (5) a wall (10) which extends towards the interior of the opening (2) and which forms the opening of said door (4), and said door (4) being equipped with a cylinder lock (14) carrying a latch (15) whose end ( 18) is capable of engaging behind said wall (10) forming the beat to lock said door (4), characterized in that the wall (10) forming the beat is reinforced by a stiffener (11) which extends towards the rear of the frame (3) and by the fact that the latch (15) cooperates with said stiffener (11), when the door is locked.   2. Mailbox according to claim 1, characterized in that the stiffener (11) is formed in one piece with the wall (10)   forming the beat by folding the sheet.   3. Mailbox according to one of claims 1 or 2,   characterized in that the stiffener (11) has a window (19)   for the passage of the end (18) of the latch (15).
