Abstract

The procedure uses lost clips to support the fastened object until the adhesive sets The procedure, designed for fastening a plaster decoration or similar object (1) to a partition, wall (2) or ceiling (3) with the aid of a suitable adhesive (18), consists of attaching lost fastenings such as clips (6) to the supporting surface to engage with matching grooves in the fastened object, holding it in place for sufficient time for the adhesive to set. In the case of cornices, moldings or wainscoting the fastenings are located at the joints between sections to achieve a precise alignment. The clips are of U-shaped cross-section, fastened to the supporting surfaces by fixings and engaging with grooves of matching depth and with side walls having convergent/divergent surfaces in the fastened objects.

IMPROVEMENT IN PRODUCT LAYING PROCESSES
WEIGHING ON A SUPPORT SUCH AS A WALL, A WALL AND / OR
CEILING, FIXED BY APPROPRIATE ADHESIVE.

 The present invention relates to a method of laying heavy products which are intended to be fixed to a support of the wall, wall and / or ceiling type, using an appropriate adhesive. It also relates to the means which allow the implementation of the method and in particular a system for securing these heavy products which are for example articles or decorative pieces of plaster or other, such as cornices, moldings, picture rails or rosettes; it also relates to products of the plaster or other decorative element type, provided with the aforementioned securing system.

 Decorative articles in plaster such as moldings, cornices, picture rails or other, are fixed on their support by means of glues or suitable coatings which also allow the realization of the connection joints between two parts of article juxtaposed and / or between said article and its support.

The fixing of these articles by gluing generally requires the use of a useful shoring structure during the setting time of the glue.

These shoring structures, which are removed when the adhesive is operational, generally prove to be quite bulky. They also have the disadvantage of not always being easy to position; they require several interventions from operators which take time and require precision.

 The present invention provides a laying method and means for implementing the method, which make it possible to overcome these shoring structures.

 The process in accordance with the invention consists in: - arranging on the invisible side of the product, that is to say on its side situated on the support side, means which allow it to be hooked up with fastening means for lost use installed on said surface support, that is to say the wall, the wall and / or the ceiling, - to present said product, after coating of adhesive, on the support, then - to subject said product to said fixing means, the role of which is to support the product in question for a sufficient time which corresponds at least to the time necessary for the adhesive to become operational and take over by ensuring a secure and final fixing.

The fixing device for lost use which cooperates with the hooking means arranged on the product to be fixed, constitutes a system of assistance with the installation which makes it possible to get rid of the shoring systems used until now for the time glue. This fixing device has a permanent attachment action, however it is the glue which ensures the main function of securing over time; this glue also makes it possible, by smoothing, to produce the connection joints to obtain an aesthetic fixing.

 In the case where several independent products are juxtaposed (for the production of cornices or moldings, for example) the fastening means for lost use are advantageously arranged at the junction of two parts, making it possible to achieve perfect alignment of said parts.

 The invention also relates to the securing system which allows the implementation of the method.

 According to a first embodiment, this securing system comprises, on the hidden face of the product, an arrangement capable of cooperating with a clip-shaped member provided with means which allow its fixing to the support, that is to say say on the wall, the wall and / or the ceiling.

The arrangement of the hidden face of the product may consist of a hollow groove whose depth is at least equal to the height of the clip and whose side walls are slightly converging over part of their depth to tighten the side branches of said clip, then divergent to cooperate with the attachment parts of the latter. In this case, the clip preferably has a U-shaped section and it has ends arranged to slide between the sides of the groove of the product, and then to grip by moving away, on the divergent surfaces of said groove.

According to another possible form, the arrangement on the hidden surface of the product consists of a W-shaped groove, with a central tenon whose side walls converge on the side of the support, with a slight slope. According to this alternative embodiment, the U-section clip detailed previously, has shaped ends for pinching the side walls of the central stud.

 Still according to the invention, the clip of the securing system consists of a sole adapted to be in contact with the support (wall, wall and / or ceiling); this sole has holes for the passage of the fixing screws and it supports at least two clipping members which are intended to cooperate each with a part, at the junction of two adjacent parts.

 According to a second embodiment, the securing system comprises, on the hidden face of the product, a hollow groove in which is fixed one of the parts of an assembly member of the self-gripping type, the complementary part of said assembly member being directly fixed to the support. The depth of this groove is adapted to absorb the thickness of said assembly member, taking into account the thickness of the adhesive joint.

To optimize the fixing, several portions of the assembly member, of the self-gripping type, are distributed over the length of the hollow groove which is arranged on the hidden face of the product.

 According to another characteristic of the invention, the hollow groove provided on the hidden face of the product has longitudinal returns which give it a section in the general shape of a tee. This particular groove allows the reception by sliding of a rigid support on which is fixed one of the parts of the assembly member of the self-gripping type.

Preferably, the astrakhan part of the hook-and-loop type assembly device is fixed to the wall while the hook part is secured to the product.

 However, the invention will be further illustrated, without being in any way limited, by the following description of several particular embodiments, given solely by way of example and shown in the accompanying drawings in which: - Figure 1 shows, in perspective, the installation of a portion of cornice in the upper corner of a wall, under the ceiling, by means of glue and hooking members in the form of securing clips, - Figure 2 is a perspective view of 'a possible embodiment of the clip-shaped fastening member; - Figure 3 is a sectional view which shows a securing clip, fixed to the ceiling - Figure 4 shows a cornice coated with glue, presented to be fixed both on the ceiling and on the wall; this figure shows said cornice partially engaged on the clip of Figure 3; - Figure 5 shows the cornice in normal position, glued to the ceiling and the wall, with the securing clip fully engaged - Figure 6 shows a variant of the hooking means, arranged on a molding, the latter being shown in moment of engagement of the attachment means on the clip - Figure 7 shows the molding of Figure 6 in normal position on its support, supported by the clip and fixed by the glue in place - Figure 8 is a view in perspective of a picture rail intended to be fixed on a wall, by gluing and by means of a fastening system of the hook-and-loop type.

- Figure 9 is a cross-sectional view showing the chair rail of Figure 8 coated with glue and provided with hook-and-loop fastening means, presented in front of its support; - Figure 10 shows the attachment of the chair rail with its support.

 Figure 1 shows a prefabricated cornice corner element, made for example of plaster, which is fixed by gluing on its support, in this case the walls 2 and the ceiling 3 of a living room. This fixing is obtained by pressure after coating with adhesive on the perpendicular surface planes 4 and 5, intended to come into contact with the support 2, 3.

 The cornice 1 also has a groove-shaped arrangement, provided in its thickness, at its bearing face 5, to allow its subjection to additional fixing members in the form of clips 6 fixed on the ceiling 3. These members additional fixing 6, regularly distributed, are adapted to support the cornice, which is heavy, and thus keep it immobile and stable during the setting time of the glue.

 The clips 6 are in fact pieces for lost use which are put in place before the installation of the cornice and which are completely integrated into the thickness of the latter.

 There is shown in Figure 2 a possible embodiment of the securing clip. This clip 6 comprises a sole 9 which is intended to bear on the support, that is to say the wall 2 or, in the case of FIG. 1, the ceiling 3. This sole 9 has holes 10 for the passage of the fixing screws 11, as shown in FIG. 3. The orifices 10 have a slightly oblong shape and their major axis is oriented transversely relative to the length of the sole 9.

 Preferably, the clip 6 is fixed on its support by means of a single screw which is not strongly tightened. An automatic adjustment of the positioning of the clip is thus obtained during the presentation of the part to be secured, in connection with the oblong shape of the orifices 10; in this way it is possible to make up for any defects, either in the flatness of the support, or in the positioning of the product during installation.

 Note that in the case of the installation of cornices or moldings for example, a fixing clip 6 can be used to make the junction of two parts, in order to facilitate the alignment of said abutted parts.

 The clip 6 has a generally U-shaped section. It comprises, on each side of the sole 9, wings 12 which are parallel to each other, perpendicular to said sole 9. The end of the wings 12 has a first fold 13 towards the outside, about 30 relative to the extension of the wing 12, then a second fold 14 inwards; The angle between the folds 13 and 14 is of the order of 900.

The width of the fold 14 is greater than that of the fold 13 so as to position the end edge 15 above the sole 9, in the space between the side walls 12.

 The edges 15 facing each other form a sort of clamp. The corner ribs 16, formed by the fold between the folds 13 and 14, constitute a kind of elastic lock which cooperates with the walls of an appropriately shaped groove, arranged on the products, whether they are cornices , moldings, picture rails, rosettes, etc ...

 Still in FIG. 2, it can be seen that the clip 6 is in fact formed by a first clipping system 61 and a second clipping system 62, common to the same sole 9 and separated by a saw cut 17. Thus , in the case of abutting parts for example, the clipping part 61 is used for fixing a part while the part 62 is used for fixing the adjacent adjacent part.

 The saw line 17 also makes it possible to easily cut the clip into two parts.

 FIG. 3 shows the installation of a clip 6 fixed to the ceiling 3 by means of a screw 11. Preferably, the positioning of the clips 6 is carried out by means of a drilling template offered directly on or in the packaging of the products in question to obtain positioning security.

 FIG. 4 shows, in section, the cornice element 1 at the time of its installation. This cornice 1 has received, beforehand, a layer of adhesive 18 on its faces 4 and 5 which are intended to be applied, respectively, on the wall 2 and the ceiling 3. On the corresponding faces 4 and 5, the presence is noted longitudinal grooves 19 which improve the fixing by increasing the contact surfaces and which also make it possible to locate the place where the adhesive 18 must be applied.

 This cornice has in its thickness, at its surface 5, a groove 21 obtained directly during molding, in which the clip 6 is intended to be inserted. This longitudinal groove 21 has a depth at least equal to the height of the clip 6. Its sides 22 are made up of two inclined surfaces, slightly converging over approximately two thirds of its depth to allow the sides of the clip 6 to be tightened. These two surfaces then diverge to the bottom 23 of the groove to allow the cornice to be locked on the clip, and in particular on the lateral ribs 16 which cooperate with said divergent surfaces of the groove 21.

 The number and distribution of the clips 6 in the groove 21 depends on the mass of the part to be fixed.

 FIG. 5 shows the cornice 1 in the normal support position on its support, that is to say on the ceiling 3 and the wall 2. The cornice is held in position by the clips 6 and this maintenance is carried out by especially the time to allow the glue 18 to be operational.

The adhesive 18 makes it possible to produce the connection joints, for example by smoothing using a wet sponge. Once the assembly is dry, the adhesive achieves a secure and durable attachment between the cornice and its support; the clips 6 remain integrated into the structure and they possibly complement the action of the adhesive.

 FIG. 6 shows the installation of a molding 30 on a wall or a wall 2. On its face in contact with the support 2, the molding 30 has an arrangement 31 in the form of a groove with a W-section made directly during the molding. The depth of this groove 31 is greater than the height of the clip 6. It has a central tenon 32 which is inserted between the branches of the clip 6 and in particular between the end edges 15. These two edges 15 pinch the lateral surfaces 33 of the pin 32, which surfaces converge on the side of the support with a slight slope. The end 34 of the stud 32 is slightly set back from the surface 35 of the molding on its support 2 so as not to be in contact with the head of the screw 11.

 As shown in FIG. 6, the laying surface 35 of the molding 30 is coated with a layer of adhesive 18 and it is presented on its support 2, positioned by means of the clip 6 and its tenon 32, by simple pressure.

As shown in FIG. 7, the molding 30 is applied with force to its support 2. The clip 6 and in particular its lateral branches 12 penetrate into the groove 31 and lock the molding by pinching the tenon 32 with the flanges 15.

The pinch level is a function of the structural characteristics of the clip 6 and of the stud 32, as well as the thickness of the adhesive joint 18.

 As before, the molding 30 is sufficiently supported by means of the clips 6 to allow the glue to become operational, and to take over, fixing said molding energetically and durably on its support.

 The groove 21 of the embodiment shown in Figures 4 and 5 is preferably arranged over the entire length of the cornice 1, just like the groove 31 along the length of the molding 30, for the embodiment of Figures 6 and 7 .

 This clip assembly system is similarly suitable for fixing picture rails, as well as for fixing rosettes on which 2, 3 or more clips 6 are used; these clips are preferably positioned, as mentioned above, by means of a template delivered with the parts.

 Figures 8 to 10 illustrate the mounting of a picture rail 40 on a wall 2, according to another embodiment of the invention.

 The picture rail 40 is fixed to the wall 2 by means of an appropriate adhesive 41 and also by securing means of the hook-and-loop type, effective in particular during the setting time of said adhesive.

 On its hidden face 42, that is to say on its face intended to come into contact with the support 2, this picture rail 40 has a longitudinal groove 43 with a T-section which receives one of the parts of an auto strip gripping, for example the hook part 44. This hook part 44 cooperates with the corresponding astrakan part 45 which, for its part, is fixed to the wall 2.

 The glue 41 is affixed on either side of the groove 43 and of the hook-and-loop means 44, 45, on longitudinal ridges 47.

 Preferably, several portions of assembly members of the hook-and-loop type 44, 45 are distributed along the length of the picture rail to serve as a fastening system while the adhesive has an effective action. These portions of assembly members can also be placed astride two abutting parts.

 The astrakhan part 45 is fixed to the wall 2 by gluing, stapling or by screwing; the hook part is mounted on a rigid support 48 which is slid into the groove 43 by the ends of the sections of picture rails.

The rigid support 48 is secured to the picture rail via the longitudinal pins 49 of the groove 43; if necessary, an additional fixing of the glue or staple type can be used.

 After correct positioning of the adhesive 41 and the sections of hook-and-loop strips 44, 45, the installation of the chair rail 40 is carried out by simple pressure. The hook-and-loop means are immediately effective and they hold the part 40 sufficiently to prevent movements or displacements thereof, while the glue 41 hardens.

Once the attachment has been made (FIG. 10) the groove 43 allows the complete integration of the hook-and-loop means 44, 45.

 The glue 41 not only ensures the durable fixing of the part 40, but it also makes it possible to produce the finishing joint, after smoothing.

 Due to the large attachment surface of the hook-and-loop means 44, 45, the part 45 fixed to the wall 2 does not require as great positioning precision as that required for the clips 6 used in the embodiment of FIGS. 1 to 7.

 These complementary fastening means of the hook-and-loop type can also be used in the same way for the installation of moldings, cornices, rosettes or others.
