Abstract

FIXED AND MOBILE CUSHION HEADREST

  The present invention relates to a motor vehicle seat comprising a backrest provided with a frame supporting a headrest, this headrest comprising at least one arm fixed without the possibility of longitudinal sliding relative to the frame, and a fixed cushion

secured to this arm.

  Motor vehicle seats of the kind in

  question, in which the head restraints are not adjustable

  height, must be placed high enough to ensure the safety of tall people. However, these head restraints are ill-suited to ensure the comfort of smaller passengers. In addition, the fixed cushion has a certain volume and is often located at a height

  interfering with rear visibility for the driver of the vehicle.

  As shown in Figure 1 and in a manner known per se, the seat 1 for a motor vehicle consists of a seat 2 supported by the floor 3 of the vehicle and a backrest 4 rotatably mounted on the seat 2 of the seat. A headrest 5 according to the present invention is

  attached to the backrest 4 as described below.

  The headrest 5, shown in Figures 2 to 4, consists of two arms 7 and 8, a fixed cushion 9 and a

movable cushion 10.

  The two arms 7 and 8 are supported by an upper frame 6 of the backrest 4 by means of two sockets 11 and 12

  rigidly fixed in the upper part of this frame.

  The two arms 7 and 8 of the headrest 5 are thus fixed to the

  seat back 4 with no possibility of sliding along

  The fixed cushion 9 is secured to the upper ends 13 and 14 of the arms 7 and 8 so as to be disposed at an invariable regulatory height relative to the backrest 4 of the seat. It is thus understood that in this embodiment, the headrest 5 is rigidly fixed to the backrest 4, but as a variant, this headrest can be rotatably mounted on the backrest without the fixed cushion 9 being adjustable.

  The movable cushion 10 is integral with a support structure 15 to be movable between a high position in which it comes to dock the fixed cushion 9 and a low position in which it abuts against the

seat back 4.

  The fixed cushion 9 and the movable cushion 10 are each of a volume equal to substantially half the volume of a conventional fixed headrest, thus allowing very good rear view thanks to the space formed between these two cushions. The support structure 15, made for example of plastic material of the polyamide type, comprises two columns 16 and 17 which are each mounted mobile along the two arms 7 and 8 and which are connected together by a

  crosspiece 18 so as to form an "H" structure.

  This support structure 15 also includes means 19 for adjusting the height of the movable cushion 10 between

its high and low positions.

  As shown in FIGS. 3 to 5, the means 19 for adjusting the height of the movable cushion 10 comprise two "U" pins 20 and 21 each carried in the lower part of the balusters 16 and 17. Each of these

  pins 20 and 21 has two branches 22, 23 elastic-

  deformable towards each other: a first branch 22 in the form of an "S" is rigidly fixed to the balusters and a second branch 23 is elastically movable in a groove 24 formed in the lower part of each of the balusters to cooperate with a notching 25 spared on

each of arms 7 and 8.

  Thus, the movable cushion 10 is adjustable in height in intermediate, stable positions, defined by the

notch 25.

  As a variant, the means 19 for adjusting the height of the movable cushion 10 can be constituted by friction means allowing continuous adjustment of the position of this cushion.

Claims (8)

  1. Motor vehicle seat comprising a backrest (4) provided with a frame (6) supporting a headrest (5), this headrest (5) comprising at least one arm (7,8) fixed without the possibility of longitudinal sliding relative to the frame (6), and a fixed cushion (9) secured to this arm (7,8), characterized in that the headrest (5) further comprises a movable cushion (10) along said arm   (7,8), between a high position and a low position.   2. Seat according to claim 1, wherein the fixed cushion (9) is disposed at an upper end (13,14) of said at least one arm (7,8), the upper and lower positions of the movable cushion (10) being respectively defined by the coming into abutment against the fixed cushion (9) and against the backrest (4).   3. Seat according to claim 1 or 2, wherein the headrest (5) comprises two arms (7,8) fixed to the frame (6) of the backrest (4), the movable cushion (10) being integral a support structure (15) which is movable along the two arms (7,8) and which comprises means (19) for adjusting the height of the movable cushion (10) between its high and low positions. 4. Seat according to claim 3, wherein the support structure (15) comprises two columns (16,17) each movable along an arm (7,8) and connected between   them by a crosspiece (18) so as to form a struc- ture in "H".   5. Seat according to claim 4, wherein the means (19) for adjusting the height of the movable cushion (10)   include at least one elastic "U" pin (20,21) -   deformable ment carried by at least one of the columns (16,17) and intended to cooperate with a notch (25)   correspondent formed on at least one arm (7,8).   6. Seat according to claim 5, wherein said at least one pin (20,21) comprises two branches (22,23) elastically deformable towards each other, a first branch (22) being fixed to the baluster ( 16,17) and a second branch (23) being elastically movable in a groove made in the baluster to cooperate with the   notch (25) carried by the arm (7,8).   7. Seat according to any one of the claims   3 to 6, in which the support structure (15) is made in   plastic material, of the polyamide type.   8. Seat according to any one of claims   previous, in which the arm (7,8) of the headrest (5)   is rigidly attached to the frame (6) of the backrest (4).
