Abstract

This is a traction clamp comprising two handles (15, 16) articulated to one another, one of these handles (15, 16) having for this purpose at least one articulation bore ( 50) by which it engages with a pivot (52) integral with the other. According to the invention, the articulation bore (50) is opened laterally by a slot (53) of width at least equal to the diameter (D) of the pivot (52), which facilitates the assembly and disassembly of the assembly. . Application, in particular, to pulling and cutting pliers for hose clamps.

Description

"Traction pliers for lanyards, particularly for clamps"

  The present invention generally relates to the traction clamps which, for the exercise of a pull on a strap, such as that of a clamp for example, and, thus, the power of this strap , generally comprise two handles hinged to each other against resilient return means, namely, a first handle, here called simply convenience central handle, which has an opening for the passage of the strap to tender and for the abutment thereof, and a second handle, said here for convenience pull handle, which, in correspondence with the opening of the central handle, is equipped with gripping means specific to the

seizure of the thong.

  A traction clamp of this type is particularly described in the French patent which, filed June 2, 1977 under

  No 77 16827, published under No. 2,400,995.

  In this French patent, the central handle is equipped with a knife which, under the control of a third handle, here referred to simply as a cutting handle, articulated on this central handle, is mounted to move relative to the opening it includes for the passage

of a thong.

  After turning on this strap, simply pull the handle to remove the length

extra.

  In any case, in the construction of the traction clamps of the kind in question, it is necessary to ensure the articulation of the traction handle on the central handle. To do this, any one of these handles comprises at least one articulation hole, of circular contour, by which it is engaged in rotation with a

pivot solid with the other.

  In French Patent No. 77 16827 referred to above

  above, the traction handle thus has, between the zone of action on it corresponding elastic return means and the zone of action thereof on the central handle, two articulation bores through which it is engaged to rotation with a pivot integral with this central handle. But in this French Patent No. 77 16827, this pivot forms a part which, distinct from the central handle, is

recently reported on it.

  The realization, and the assembly, of this pivot are missing

  unfortunately not to increase the cost of the whole.

  It is all the more so that this pivot crosses in practice through both the central handle and the pull handle, and that for its axial retention, it is necessary either to achieve in two parts, to the way of a rivet, or to provide by machining at at least one of its ends a throat clean to the intervention of a split elastic ring forming a stop, which further increases the number

  of parts necessary for the assembly of the whole.

  If this assembly is thus relatively complex, it is obviously the same dismantling, even though this disassembly may be necessary for the change of any of the constituents likely to wear or fatigue, as may be the both elastic return means intervening between the pull handle and the central handle of the moving knife when such a knife

  mobile is provided in the central handle.

  The present invention generally relates to provisions for reducing the number of parts necessary for the production of a traction clamp of the

  the type in question and to facilitate assembly and disassembly.

  More specifically, it relates to a traction clamp for the strap of the kind comprising two handles articulated to each other against elastic return means, namely, a first handle, here called central handle, which has an opening for the passage of the strap to tender and for the abutment thereof, and a second handle, here called pull handle, which, in correspondence with the opening of the central handle, is equipped with gripping means adapted to the gripping of the strap, with, on one of these handles, between the zone of action on it elastic return means and the zone of action of these on the other handle at least one articulation hole, of circular contour, through which this handle is engaged in rotation with a pivot integral with the other handle, this traction clamp being generally characterized in that, in the manner of a notch, the piercing of arti culation is opened laterally by a width slit

  at least equal to the diameter of the pivot.

  It follows first from this provision that the assembly and disassembly of the following traction handle

  the invention are advantageously facilitated.

  Indeed, the removal of the pull handle relative to the central handle, necessary to have access to the elastic return means intervening between these handles, for example for the change of these elastic return means, does not imply, for the essential, that a lateral release of this traction handle relative to the central handle against the latter, without prior removal of a

any pivot.

  In addition, according to the invention, this pivot can if desired be an integral part of the handle which it is integral, being for example formed by a flange of a single piece of the handle in favor of a flat of the one following a technique of stamping-repoussage commonly

called "soyage".

  This advantageously results in a minimization of the number of parts necessary for producing the traction handle according to the invention, to the benefit of the overall cost of

manufacture thereof.

  In addition, when the central handle is equipped with a knife mounted movably under the control of a cutting handle, and that, in a manner known per se, in this case by the French patent No. 77 16827 mentioned above, the elastic return means intervening between the pulling handle and this central handle are coupled, on the one hand, to this pulling handle, and, on the other hand, to the knife, these resilient return means ensure, advantageously, by them same, according to the present invention, an additional function, which is the

assembled support of the whole.

  Finally, according to another embodiment of the invention, when, in a manner known per se, in particular from French Patent No. 77 16827 mentioned above, the central handle and the cutting handle have, at least locally, one and the another, in cross-section, a U-shaped profile, with a medial part and two lateral wings, and that the cutting handle then covers at least locally the central handle, the cutting handle comprises, according to the present invention, for its articulation to the central handle, projecting on the internal face of each of its lateral wings, a pin by which it is engaged in rotation with a hub which, provided in correspondence on the central handle, does not extend

  Circularly at most only over 180.

  The mounting of the cutting handle on the central handle is facilitated, and it is the same for its disassembly, and, therefore, access to the knife when the knife

must be changed.

  In addition, as before, each of the trunnions contained in the cutting handle can then advantageously be an integral part thereof, and / or each of the hubs that comprises the central handle can also advantageously be an integral part of the latter, for the benefit of an increased minimization of the number of parts necessary for producing the traction clamp according to the invention, and, therefore, at the benefit of an overall cost of

  even more reduced manufacturing for this traction clamp.

  The provisions which are the subject of the present invention, as well as their characteristics and their advantages,

  will emerge from the description which follows,

  By way of example, with reference to the appended diagrammatic drawings, in which: FIG. 1 is, with local detachments, a plan view of the traction clamp according to the invention, for the closed position thereof; Figure 2 is a partial view in cross section along the line II-II of Figure 1; Figure 3 is another partial view in cross section along the broken line III-III of Figure 1; Figure 4 is, with a local cutaway, an exploded perspective view of the traction clamp according to the invention; Figure 5 is an exploded perspective view of the central handle of this pulling pliers and the cutting handle it comprises in the embodiment shown; FIGS. 6A and 6B are partial plan views which, derived from that of FIG. 1, respectively illustrate two successive phases of implementation of the traction clamp according to the invention; Figure 7 is, with a local cutaway, a partial plan view which, similar to that of Figure 1, relates to an alternative embodiment; Figure 8 is a partial view in longitudinal section relative to another embodiment; Figures 9 and 10 are partial views in cross section which, similar to that of Figure 2, each relate respectively to other embodiments. In FIG. 1, a traction clamp 10 of the type described in French Patent No. 77 16827 is recognized, and it is therefore more precisely in the present case, and by way of example of application of the invention, a traction clamp

and cutting.

  This traction clamp 10 is intended to allow, firstly, to first exert a pull on a strap 11, for the power of it, and it is, for example, as shown diagrammatically in broken lines in FIG. 1, of the strap 11 of a clamping collar 12 which, thanks to the closing head 13 thereof, is looped over any assembly 14 to be clamped and, on the other hand, to cut, then, this strap 11, in the vicinity, for example, of the closure head 13 in which it is engaged. This traction clamp 10 comprises two handles 15, 16, which, suitable for its grip, each having a handle 17, 18 respectively, are hinged one to

  the other against elastic return means 20.

  When, as represented in FIG. 1, the traction clamp 10 is in the closed position, the two handles 15, 16 are locally confronted to each other by their noses 21, 22, that is to say by that of their ends that is opposite to

  their sleeve 17, 18 relative to their hinge axis A1.

  In the embodiments shown, they are then confronted with each other along a plane P, such

  as schematized in broken lines in Figure 1.

  On the side of its nose 21, the first handle 15, here referred to simply as a central handle convenience, has, generally, an opening 23, for the passage of the strap 11 to be stretched and for the abutment thereof, the head closing 13 of the clamp 12 coming to bear on this

  nose 21 on at least one side of this opening 23.

  In the embodiments shown, this central handle 15 has, at least locally in cross-section, a U-shaped profile, with a medial portion 25 and two lateral wings 26, and in practice this is so on

all its length.

  Its concavity is generally turned towards the second

  handle 16, referred to here as a simple convenience pull handle.

  At the nose 21, the two lateral wings 26 of the central handle 15 are joined to each other by a plate 27, which extends substantially along the plane P, and its middle portion 25 bends in the direction of this board 27

  until you reach her at the end.

  The opening 23 present at this level is therefore in practice formed by two holes 23 ', 23 "affecting each

  respectively the middle part 25 and the plate 27.

  The traction handle 16 also has, at least locally, in cross section, a U-shaped profile, with a middle part 28 and two lateral wings 30, and, in practice,

  In the embodiments shown, these gripping means 32 comprise, on the one hand, a ratchet 33, with teeth 34, which, by a shaft end 35, is rotatably mounted between the two lateral wings 30, and, on the other hand, an abutment surface 36, which is in practice formed by two angled returns 37 each coming from a single

  holding these two side wings 30.

  The ratchet 33 is subjected to a flexural spring 38 which urges it continuously in rotation in a direction for which its teeth 34 tend to come against the surface of

stop 36.

  When, as represented in FIG. 1, the traction clamp 10 is in the closed position, the ratchet 33 of the traction handle 16 carries a heel 40 against the plate 27 of the central handle 15, and its teeth 34 are then discarded. of

the abutment surface 36.

  The tensile pliers 10 being, in fact, as previously indicated, a traction and cutting pliers in the embodiments shown, the central handle 15 is equipped with a knife 41 which, under the control of a third handle 42, here called cutting handle, articulated on it, is mounted movable relative to the opening 23 that it

  includes for the passage of the strap 11 to tender.

  Let A2 be the axis of articulation of the cutting handle 42 on the central handle 15, as indicated by its trace in FIG. 1 and as schematized in broken lines on the

figure 3.

  This axis of articulation A2 is parallel to the hinge axis A1 of the traction handle 16 on the handle

  In the embodiments shown, the knife 41 is movably mounted in contact with the plate 27 of the central handle 15, between the latter and two guide lugs 43 each respectively of the two lateral wings 26 of the central handle 15 to the favor of punctured 44 of these wings

lateral 26.

  At its end opposite the opening 23, the knife 41 has a right-angled return 45, directed towards the pulling handle 16, and at its free end this angled return

45 is bent.

  Furthermore, in the embodiments shown, the elastic return means 20 intervening between the pull handle 16 and the central handle 15 are formed by a tension spring, of the coil spring type, elongated between the lateral wings 30 of the traction handle 16, and they are coupled, on the one hand, to this pull handle 16, and, more specifically, a lug 46 integrally coming from the middle portion 28 thereof in favor of 'a puncture 46' of this middle portion 28, and, secondly, the knife 41, thanks to the return 45 bracket of the latter, constantly soliciting this knife 41 to contact, by its return to square 45 , stop means 47, which, in accordance with arrangements described in more detail later, are provided for it on the cutting handle 42, at a distance from the axis

articulation A2 thereof.

  In the embodiment more particularly shown in FIGS. 1 to 5, the cutting handle 42 has, at least locally, in cross-section, a U-shaped profile, with a medial portion 48 and two lateral wings 49, and, in

  practical, it is so all along its length.

  By its lateral wings 49, it is engaged on the central handle 15, and therefore at least locally covers this central handle 15 at its axis A2 articulation

on this one.

  The foregoing provisions are well known in themselves, in particular by French Patent No. 77 16827, and

  they will not be described in more detail here.

  Also known from this French patent, it is provided, for the articulation of the two handles 15, 16 to one another, on at least one of these handles 15, 16, between the action zone. on it elastic return means 20 and the zone of action thereof on the other handle 16, 15, at least one articulation hole 50, of circular contour, through which this handle 15, 16 is engaged rotating with a

  pivot 52 secured to the other handle 16, 15.

  According to the invention, this articulation piercing 50 is, in the manner of a notch, open laterally by a slot

  53 of width at least equal to the diameter D of the pivot 52.

  Preferably, and as shown, this slot 53 will gradually widen from the inside of the piercing

  hinge 50 to the outside thereof.

  In other words, its width is gradually increasing from the inside of the articulation hole 50

to the outside of it.

  In the embodiments shown, the handle having the hinge hole 50 is the pull handle 16, and, this pull handle 16 having, at least locally, in cross section, a U-shaped profile, it comprises two holes of articulation 50, at a rate of one

lateral wing 30.

  These two articulation holes 50, which each respectively affect the two lateral wings 30 in the zone thereof by which the pulling handle 16 at least locally covers the central handle 15, have, in practice, a

same orientation.

  In other words, the notches they form are

turned on the same side.

  In the embodiments shown, these notches are elongated substantially parallel to the tension spring forming the elastic return means 20, with

  the slot 53 disposed on the side of the nose 21, 22 of the handles 15, 16.

  In the embodiment more particularly shown in Figures 1 to 5, the pivot 52 associated with each articulation hole 50 is an integral part of the handle which it is integral, and it is, in this case, the handle

Central 15.

  More specifically, this pivot 52 is formed by a collar coming in one piece with this central handle

  15, thanks to a flat 54 of it.

  More specifically, again, the central handle 15 comprises two pivots 52, one for each of the hinge holes 50 of the pull handle 16, and these pivots 52 project laterally on its lateral wings 26 to the way of trunnions, in the area of these side wings

  26 that locally cap the pull handle 16.

  It follows from the foregoing that, by its hinge holes 50, the pull handle 16 is engaged from

  the outside on the pivots 52 of the central handle 15.

  It also emerges that, according to one characteristic of the invention, the elastic return means ensure by themselves the assembled support of the assembly,

  that is to say, the assembled retention of the traction clamp 10.

  Preferably, and this is the case in the embodiments shown, it is provided, on the two handles 15, 16, complementary engagement means, which, when the traction clamp 10 is in the closed position, as shown in FIG. figure 1, mesh with each other

  one of these handles 15, 16 to the other.

  For example, and as shown, these interlocking means comprise, on one of these handles 15, 16, in this case the central handle 15, at least one lug 55, which protrudes relative to the plane P , and therefore with respect to the plate 27 of this central handle 15, and on the other of the handles 16, 15, in this case the pull handle 16, in correspondence with this lug 55, a recess 56 specific to the commitment of the latter. For example, and as shown, two lugs 55 are provided, which each respectively extend the two lateral wings 26 of the central handle 15 locally, and the recesses 56 that the pulling handle 16 has in correspondence are formed by two notches each of which respectively the two side wings 30 of this handle of

traction 16.

  In the embodiment shown, the cutting handle 42 covers, by its lateral wings 49, the articulation axis A1 of the pulling handle 16 on the handle

Central 15.

  When, as is the case here, the corresponding pivots 52 are formed in favor of punctures 54 of the central handle 15, these punctures 54 are thus advantageously

concealed.

  As a corollary, to allow this overlap, the central handle 15 has a smaller width on the side of its nose 21, presenting transversely a slight narrowing between the

articulation axes A1, A2.

  In the embodiment shown, the cutting handle 42 comprises, on each of its lateral wings 49, projecting on the inner face thereof, for its articulation with the central handle 15, a pin 58 by which it is rotationally engaged with a hub 59 which, correspondingly provided on the central handle 15, does not extend

  Circularly at most only over 180.

  Preferably, and as shown, each of the journals 58 which thus comprises the cutting handle 42 is an integral part thereof, each of these pins 58 being formed by a flange integrally formed with this cutting handle 42, thanks to a flat 60 of his

side wings 49.

  As a corollary, each of the hubs 59 that comprises in correspondence the central handle 15 is preferably, and as shown, an integral part of this central handle 15, each of these hubs 59 being formed by a flange integrally formed with this central handle

  , thanks to a flat 61 of its lateral wings 26.

  In practice, established in the same orientation, the two hubs 59 that includes the central handle 15 are open towards the pull handle 16, with an inclination according to which they are partly turned towards the opening 23 that has this central handle 15 for the passage of

the strap 11 to tender.

  Like the pivots 52, but at a distance from these, the hubs 59 project on the external face of the lateral wings

26 of the central handle 15.

  In the embodiment shown, they

extend substantially to 180.

  Anyway, they materialize the hinge pin A2 of the cutting handle 42 on the central handle 15, and by its trunnions 58, this cutting handle.

  42 is engaged from within on them.

  In the embodiments shown, the abutment means 47 provided on the cutting handle 42 for the knife 41 form an integral part of this cutting handle 42, these abutment means 47 being formed by at least one tab 63

  Preferably, and as is best seen in FIG. 5, two lugs 63 are provided, one at each side wing 49 of the cutting handle 42, and each formed with the aid of a flat tire 64, they are folded to the square inwardly, in the direction of one another, perpendicularly to the lateral flange 49 from which they are derived. It follows from the foregoing that, through successively the knife 41 and the cutting handle 42, the region of action of the elastic return means 20 on the central handle 15 is defined by the support of the cutting handle 42 on this central handle 15 at their respective trunnions 58 and hubs 59, and that, more simply, the zone of action of these elastic return means 20 on the traction handle 16 is defined by the single lug 46 of this traction handle 16. For possible disassembly of the traction clamp 10 according to the invention, it can very simply be carried out as follows. At first, FIG. 4, and after a sufficient opening of the traction clamp 10 so that the lugs 55 of the central handle 15 escape the recesses 56 of the traction handle 16, it is exerted between these handles 15, 16 , along the double arrow F1 in FIG. 4, a spreading force sufficient for the pulling handle 16 against the elastic return means 20

  escapes the pivots 52 of the central handle 15.

  The resulting separation for these two handles 15, 16 then makes it possible to unhook the return angle of the knife 41 the tension spring constituting the elastic return means 20, and also pick up this spring

  pulling the lug 46 of the traction handle 16.

  The change, if any, of this tension spring is

  thus finds advantageously facilitated.

  As it is easy to understand, the widening of the slot 53 of the articulation bores 50 of the traction handle 16 facilitates the dismounting of the traction clamp 10,

  and, of course, it also facilitates reassembly.

  In a second step, FIG. 5, it is acted on the central handle 10, so as to disengage it from the front of the

cutting handle 42.

  To do this, and as shown schematically by an arrow F2 in Figure 5, it is first made so that, by a backward oblique movement, this central handle is released from the pins 58 of the handle of cut 42, thanks

at the opening of its hubs 59.

  Then, as shown schematically by an arrow F3 in FIG. 5, this central handle 15, with the knife 41 that it carries, is disengaged from the cutting handle 42, passing between

  the pins 58 thereof and its middle part 48.

  It is thus advantageously given access to the knife

  41, in particular for a possible change thereof.

  The reassembly of the traction clamp 10 according to the invention is obviously done in a reverse process of the previous. As it is easy to understand, the complementary interlocking means 55, 56 provided between the two handles 15, 16 advantageously avoid inadvertent disassembly of the traction clamp 10 according to the invention in case of a fall, and require the contrary to the fact that a voluntary opening action is applied to this traction clamp 10 for

its disassembly.

  In use, the handles 15, 16 are brought together one

  on the other, along the arrow F4 of Figure 6A.

  Dument libéré, the ratchet 33 of the traction handle 16 comes to grip the strap 11, and, the closing head 13 to which it is coupled being in abutment against the nose 21 of the central handle 15, this strap 11 is gradually put in place tension on the assembly 14 that it encloses. When its tension is sufficient, it is acted on the cutting handle 42, along the arrow F5 of FIG. 6B, which, by the abutment means 47 carried by this cutting handle 42, drives the knife 41 to cut the strap 11

as shown.

  In the variant embodiment shown in FIG. 7, the cutting handle 42 is engaged locally in the central handle 15, in favor of an opening 65 arranged

  for this purpose in the middle part thereof.

  For example, and as shown, this cutting handle 42 is then a flat piece, made of cut sheet metal, and it has locally a notch 66 through which, following a hinge type knuckle, it is pivotally mounted on the slice of the opening 65 in which she

is engaged.

  In the variant embodiment shown in FIG. 8, the central handle 15 comprises, in a manner known per se, protruding outwards along a portion of the contour of the opening 23 which it presents for the passage of the strap 11 to tender, a spout 68 adapted to support the support of the closure head 13 which is coupled to the strap 11, this spout 68 extends, according to the invention, along the side of this opening 23 which is closest to the axis

  articulation A1 of the handles 15, 16.

  Experience shows that the closure head 13 is thus advantageously arranged, and that, sitting under conditions that minimize, if not cancel, the deformation of which it may be the object, the effort to deploy for the powering up of the strap 11 is, the

  conditions being equal, globally less.

  According to the embodiments shown in Figures 9 and 10, the pivots 52 ensuring the articulation of the handles 15, 16 relative to each other belong to a part 70, which is distinct from the handle which they are secured. , in this case the central handle 15, is duly

reported on it.

  For example, FIG. 9, this part 70 is a pin, and for example a pin of the type of those sold under the trade name "MECANINDUS" whose

ends form the pivots 52.

  Alternatively, Figure 10, it is a rivet in two parts, male and female, which also by its ends,

form the two pivots 52.

  As previously, the cutting handle 42 covers, by its lateral wings 49, the corresponding hinge pin A1, which would be sufficient, if it were necessary, to

keeping the room 70.

  Of course, the present invention is not limited to the embodiments described and shown, but encompasses any variant embodiment and / or combination of

their various elements.

  In particular, instead of being arranged on the traction clamp, or the articulation holes may just as well be arranged on the central handle, or the corresponding pivots then being secured to the pull handle. Similarly, when the central handle is equipped with a cutting handle, the corresponding pins can be provided on the central handle rather than the cutting handle, the latter having, then, it, the hubs

corresponding open.

  Moreover, the field of application of the invention is not limited only to the case where, as described and

  shown, such a cutting handle is provided.

  On the contrary, it extends more generally in the case where other means are used to ensure

  time, if desired, the cut of the strap powered up.

  For example, the lips of the opening that the central handle has for the passage of this strap can form fixed knives, it follows that, to cut the strap after it has been turned on, it

  just twist the traction clamp with respect to it.

Claims (20)

  1. Traction clamp for strap, of the kind comprising two handles (15, 16) articulated to one another against resilient return means (20), namely, a first handle (15), said hereinafter central handle, which has an opening (23) for the passage of the strap (11) to tender and for the abutment thereof, and a second handle (16), hereinafter called traction handle , which, in correspondence with the opening (23) of the central handle (15), is equipped with gripping means (32) suitable for gripping the strap (11), with, on one of said handles ( 15, 16), between the zone of action on it elastic return means (20) and the zone of action thereof on the other handle (16, 15), at least one articulation hole ( 50), of circular contour, by which this handle (15, 16) is engaged in rotation with a pivot (52) integral with the other handle (16, 15), characterized in that, in the manner of a notch, l the hinge bore (50) is laterally open by a slot (53)   of width at least equal to the diameter (D) of the pivot (52).   2. Traction pliers according to any one of   Claims 1 to 3, characterized in that the pivot (52)   integral part of the handle (16, 15) which it is integral, this pivot (52) being formed by a collar coming from a single room with this one.   5. Traction pliers according to any one of   Claims 1 to 3, characterized in that the pivot (52)   belongs to a part (70) which, distinct from the handle (16,   ) of which it is solidary, is duly reported on this one.   6. Traction pliers according to any one of   Claims 1 to 5, characterized in that the handle   having the hinge bore (50) having, at least locally in cross-section, a U-shaped profile, with a middle portion (28) and two lateral wings (30), it has two hinge bores (50), at the rate of one per wing   lateral (30), and these have the same orientation.   7.
