Abstract

The vehicle pedal (2) is connected to a support (22) which is mounted on the bulkhead (3) separating the engine (5) from the driving compartment (4). The support is displaceable transversely to the vehicle between pedal operating and retracted positions. This is achieved by a control part (30) which is released by a detector of vehicle front collision. The pedal support is constituted by two parallel webs (23a) joined together by a cross member. Each web comprises a runner which runs in channel on a plate (26) fixed to the bulkhead. The pedal support is held on the plate in its operating position by rivets with limited shear resistance. The support displacement control comprises a pyrotechnic actuator having its body (31) fixed to the bulkhead and its movable rod (32) connected to the support cross member.
