Abstract
Description
DISPOSITIF DESTINE A L'ASCENSION
OF A VERTICAL SUPPORT
The present invention relates to a device intended for the ascent of a vertical support such as, for example, a tree, a pole, a mast or a structural element.
The invention finds a particularly advantageous but not exclusive application in the field of forestry and more specifically that of pruning in height of conifers.
The rational exploitation of forest trees appears today as a necessity because of the undeniable advantages which it brings, in particular from the qualitative point of view. However, if it turns out that most tree plantations are subject to penetration pruning, that is to say up to a height of about 2.5 meters, rare are those who benefit from pruning at height mainly due to the mismatch between the equipment offered on the market and the work to be done in the forest.
There are two main categories of devices, namely mobile climbing devices and pruning ladders. If the latter do not have any unacceptable shortcomings, their use remains limited to relatively low heights and does not guarantee either satisfactory comfort or optimal security, the user working constantly standing. To access parts of upper trunks, it is necessary to abandon this type of static material and to have recourse to mobile climbing devices, moving along the tree with its user.
In particular, numerous devices are known from the state of the art comprising two elements linked together by flexible straps and capable of receiving the user in the sitting and standing positions respectively. For this, the upper element is provided with a seat while the lower element comprises a platform as well as means for fixing the feet of said user. Each element also has two rigid parts intended to constitute support and counter-support surfaces capable of cooperating by contact with the support. Arranged in opposition and offset in height, these rigid parts exert pressure and traction forces on either side of said support as soon as the element in question is subjected to a sufficient weight load, thus immobilizing the assembly by jamming. The progression of the device along the support is then carried out by alternately moving each of the two elements. In order to remedy the problem of variations in section of the trunk, means are advantageously provided for adjusting the relative spacing existing between each bearing surface and each corresponding counter-bearing surface. These means can be constituted for example by bars mounted sliding in tubular elements.
However, this type of device has the drawback of not guaranteeing satisfactory safety in terms of jamming. Indeed, the parts of each element intended to exert the traction and pressure forces via the counter-support and support surfaces respectively are completely rigid. Immobilization can therefore only be carried out effectively on condition that the element in question is permanently subjected to a sufficient weight load. This is almost never the case if we consider that the user is either seated or standing, that is to say that its mass is based on only one of the two elements at a time. In addition, such a configuration does not allow the various jolts inherent in the use of this type of device to be absorbed, thereby increasing the discomfort or even the risk of the two constituent elements dropping out.
European patent application 0 404 705 remedies all of these difficulties at least in part by proposing a device for climbing a vertical support operating on the same principle of jamming by jamming, but having no surfaces of support and counter-support carried by rigid bodies. We prefer flexible straps armed with elastomer to offer both rigidity and flexibility in the horizontal plane, while ensuring respect for the support. Combined with automatic taper adjustment systems, these straps adapt during the ascent to variations in shape and section of the support.
However, if the combination of two flexible members makes it possible to guarantee comfort and safety in terms of blocking, unlike the devices described above, it generates significant problems during the alternating movement of the two platforms by not promoting the sliding of said flexible members on along the support, these tending to systematically cling to the numerous roughness present on the surface of said support.
In addition, the adaptability to the specific shape of the support is reinforced by the semi-rigid structure of each platform, the lateral parts of which are articulated. In the case where the diameter of the support is less than the width of the device at the level of the articulation axes, or that it becomes it during the ascent, the lateral parts will then come to encroach on the internal space of each platform and thus hinder the user in his movements to implement the device or to simply work.
Also the technical problem to be solved by the object of the present invention is to propose a device intended for the ascent of a vertical support such as a tree, a pole, a mast, a structural element, said device being composed an upper element and a lower element capable of receiving the user respectively in a sitting position and in a standing position, the upper element comprising a rigid frame known as the main at one end of which is positioned a seat, the lower element comprising a rigid so-called secondary frame provided with means for fixing the feet of the user, each of said upper and lower elements having a bearing surface intended to come into contact with the vertical support, a counter-bearing surface capable of cooperating also by contact with this same vertical support, as well as means for adjusting the relative spacing between these two types of surfaces, each of the control surfaces e-support being arranged in opposition and at a higher height with respect to the corresponding support surface so as to produce a locking by wedging when the element considered is subjected to a weight load, device which would make it possible to avoid the problems of the technique by ensuring in particular optimum safety at the level of jamming blockage and a certain comfort of use, while guaranteeing a great maneuverability as well along the vertical axis as in the horizontal plane, as well as a satisfactory space for the user.
The solution to the problem posed consists, according to the present invention, in that each of said bearing surfaces is formed on a rigid member and in that each of said counter-bearing surfaces is carried by a flexible member capable of adapting to the specific shape of the support as well as its section variations.
The invention as thus defined achieves the desired results. The blocking by jamming of each element, that is to say by pressure and traction, is in particular perfectly achieved thanks to the cooperation between support and counter-support members with very different mechanical properties. Due to its flexible structure, the member by which the traction is exerted adapts perfectly to the contour of the support. The relatively large contact surface between these two elements minimizes the risk of slipping. The flexibility of the counter-support member also makes it possible to absorb a good number of tremors thanks to the possibilities of deformation that it presents, thus providing security and comfort.
Due to its rigidity, the member by which the pressure is exerted constitutes a real fulcrum when the corresponding element is subjected to a weight load, but it also offers a surface capable of sliding easily along the support when said element must be moved axially or around said support.
In order to be able to be moved apart and possibly slide along the surface of the support without risk of snagging, while retaining its ability to adapt to the specific shape of said support, the counter-bearing member must present itself during its implementation a certain holding with respect to the vertical, as well as sufficient flexibility in the horizontal plane. Also, according to a feature of the invention, the flexible counter-support member is constituted by a strap composed of a metal strip covered with reinforced rubber at least on the part of said strap coming into contact with the vertical support. Arranged on edge and substantially horizontal, the strip therefore gives the strap extreme rigidity compared to the vertical, as well as obvious flexibility in any plane perpendicular to this axis. The essential function of reinforced rubber remains the protection of the support.
According to another characteristic of the invention, and unlike the devices having bearing and counter-bearing surfaces carried by entirely rigid members, it is not necessary to have a double symmetrical adjustment system to adjust the relative spacing between said surfaces. Thanks to the structural flexibility of the flexible member carrying the counter-bearing surface, it is possible to be satisfied with a simple unilateral adjustment and consequently to only cooperate with adjustment means at one of the ends of said member. flexible.
The description which follows with reference to the appended drawings, given by way of nonlimiting examples, will make it clear what the invention consists of and how it can be implemented.

For reasons of clarity, the same elements have been designated by identical references. Similarly, only the elements essential for understanding the invention have been shown, without respecting the scale and schematically.
As can be seen in Figure 1, the ascent device 1 consists of an upper element 2 and a lower element 3, independent of each other but of relatively similar structures. Indeed, both have a rigid frame 4, 5 composed of a frame 6, 7 and two guide rails 8, 9, 10, 11, joined together so as to form three-dimensional structures.
The frame 4 said main of the upper element 2 has a substantially parallelepiped geometry due to the specific positioning of the guide rails 8, 9, that is to say parallel and above the lateral parts of the frame 6. I1 is provided of a seat 50 pivotally mounted on the rear part 12 of the frame 6 in order to be able to tilt back from a horizontal position and thus allow the user to easily move the lower element 3 during the ascent of the support.
The latter can in fact advantageously use the tilting of his body in a seated position to raise his legs relative to the upper element 2 and therefore to reassemble the lower element 3.
The guide rails 10, 11, equipping the so-called secondary frame 5 of the lower element 3, form with the frame 7 a substantially pentahedral structure because one of their ends is directly attached to the corresponding lateral part of said frame 7. In order to receive the user in a standing position, the secondary frame 5 is provided with means for fixing the feet. These are individual so as not to obstruct the internal space available and thus allow the user to move on the ground, the legs inside the two elements 2, 3, to pass from a vertical support to another for example. This advantageous feature cannot be obtained with the devices of the prior art because they all comprise a platform at the level of the lower element. In this particular embodiment, the fixing means consist of a pair of stirrups 30, 31 combined with a pair of rear wedges 32, 33, the whole being secured at the level of the lateral parts of the frame 7.
The structural similarities between the two frames 4, 5 are also found at the level of the frames 6, 7 which both have, on the one hand, a longitudinal reinforcement 14, 15 separating their internal space in two, and on the other hand, a front cross member with a curved shape capable of coming into contact with the vertical support. This part thus constitutes in both cases the rigid member 16, 17 carrying the bearing surface 18, 19.
The flexible member 20, 21 supporting the abutment surface 22, 23 of each element 2, 3 is constituted by a strap 26, 27 each end of which cooperates with adjustment means 40, 41, 42, 43 making it possible to adjust the spacing of said abutment surface 22, 23 relative to the support surface 18, 19. Each of the adjustment means 40, 41, 42, 43 is in the form of a carriage 44, 45 , 46, 47 cooperating with the corresponding guide rail 8, 9, 10, 1 1.
In order to avoid the risks of deformation, each frame 4, 5 is provided with an anti-reconciliation bar 24, 25 disposed transversely between the guide rails 8, 9 and 10, 11 respectively, substantially at the level of the openings intended for the passage straps 26, 27. The main frame 4 is additionally provided with a safety strap 51 connecting the rear ends 28, 29 of the guide rails 8, 9. Thus, the combination of the three-dimensional structure of the main frame 4, the crossbar 24, the strap 51, the longitudinal reinforcement 14, and the positioning in the lower part of the seat 50, gives the upper element 2 optimum safety by eliminating the risk of falling in the event of discomfort or for any another reason, respectively on the sides, from the front, from the back or through. These characteristics even make it possible to envisage individual use of the upper element 2, in the manner of a nacelle, by connecting straps at each of its ends. In the same way, it is also possible to use this element 2 alone to work along a relatively oblique support such as for example a roof frame element.
The symmetrical structure of the flexible member 20 illustrated in FIGS. 2 to 5 is identical to that of the flexible member 21 mounted on the lower element 3. The strap 26 in question is composed in particular of a strip 52 which, in practice, may have a width and a thickness of approximately 30 mm and 1 mm respectively, and the ends 53 of which are secured to strap end pieces 54. The latter are both provided with a lateral groove 55 in which comes fit precisely the corresponding end 53 of the strip 52 (Figure 3). In this particular embodiment of the invention, an anchoring bore 56 is formed transversely through each end piece assembly 54 strip 52 and a groove 57 is hollowed out around the periphery of each end piece 54 in order to receive a cable 58. According to FIG. 2, the groove 57 faithfully follows the external contour of the end piece 54 considered and advantageously circumvents the anchoring bore 56 from the outside.
The cable 58, disposed along the face of the strip 52 opposite the support, is thus positioned in a loop around the two anchoring bores 56 intended to be connected to the means of adjustment 40, 41, 42, 43 of the relative spacing between each bearing surface 18, 19 and each counter-bearing surface 22, 23 corresponding. The endless mounting of the cable 58 is carried out by double crimping 59 at its two ends, this in order to increase the security of the strap 26. In the event of the strap 52 breaking, this arrangement would indeed allow better resistance against vis-à-vis the tensile forces which would then be exerted along the strap 26, 27, advantageously distributing said forces over four strands.
The reinforced rubber 60 intended to preserve the surface of the vertical support is presented here in three distinct portions 61, 62, 63. The central portion 62, which extends in the zone of connection of the ends of the cable 58, covers only the strip 52 so as to reveal the crimps 59 and thus allow rapid control before any use (FIG. 5). As regards the portions 61, 63, the reinforced rubber 60 covers the strip 52 and the cable 58 up to the ends of the straps 54 (FIG. 4). The part of each portion 61, 62, 63 intended to come into contact with the vertical support also has a series of ridges 64 increasing the adhesion of the strap 26, 27 along said support.
The adjustment means 40, 41 which are provided with the upper element 2 for adjusting the spacing of the counter-bearing surface 22 relative to the bearing surface 18, are perfectly identical and therefore cooperate in the same way with each end of the strap 26.
In accordance with FIG. 6, the adjustment means 40 consist of a carriage 44 cooperating by sliding with the guide slide 8. The carriage 44 is immobilized along the latter by means of locking means in the form of two index fingers 71, 72 with elastic return. Their respective ends 74 cooperate for this with a series of locking bores 73, formed at the bottom of the guide rail 8 and whose diameter is much greater than that of said ends 74 of the indexing fingers 71, 72; this latter feature guaranteeing good engagement whatever the speed of movement of the carriage 44 or the fouling state of the system.
The connection between the end of the strap 26 and the adjustment means 40 is carried out via two connecting members. The first, positioned on the carriage 44, is constituted by a part of the indexing finger 71. The second, formed at the end of the strap 26, is constituted in turn by the anchoring bore 56 passing through the end piece of the strap 54.
In practice, after being positioned around the vertical support, the strap 26 is connected to the adjustment means 40 by engaging the strap end piece 54 via the anchoring bore 56 on the indexing finger 71. In order to make slide the carriage 44 along the guide slide 8 to adjust the usable length of the strap 26, the ends 74 of the two indexing fingers 71, 72 are retracted by pulling on the handles 75, 76. Once said strap 26 has penetrated a satisfactory length inside the guide rail 8, the two indexing fingers 71, 72 are released so that their ends 74 can engage in two consecutive blocking bores 73, after a short movement corresponding to the distance separating these elements of complementary shapes, thus immobilizing the carriage 44.
Obviously, the other adjustment means 41, 42, 43 operate on the same principle. The only difference to note comes from the use of a single indexing finger with the adjustment means 42, 43 mounted on the lower element 3, for which the double security conferred by a second indexing finger appears not indispensable. Furthermore, all of them cooperate with a stop 70 intended to prevent the carriage 44, 45, 46, 47 from coming out of the guide rail 8, 9, 10, 11, as well as with a rubber roller 77 ensuring the guiding without deformation of the straps 26, 27 when the device 1 is used on vertical supports of small diameters. Due to its elastic properties, the roller 77 also makes it possible to absorb a portion of the jolts inherent in operation.
Figure 7 illustrates more precisely the means for fixing the right foot of the user, already shown in Figure 1, in particular detailing the associated security system. We therefore find the stirrup 30 and the rear wedge 31, secured to the right lateral part of the frame 7 and intended to receive the front and the heel of the foot respectively. In order to give them sufficient safety in use, these fixing means are combined with a safety device constituted by a seat belt type fastener in which the female element 80 and the male element 81 are respectively secured to the wedge rear 32 and connected to the ankle of the user by means of an adjustable strap 82. In this particular embodiment, the male element 81 comprises a tubular part 83 through which said strap 82 passes. A protection 84 is advantageously provided in order to prevent any contact between the tubular part 83 and the user's ankle. Of course, many other alternative embodiments can be envisaged at this level.
In order to minimize the size of the device 1, it is advantageously provided to conform the upper element 2 and the lower element 3 so that they can be fitted one into the other.
