Abstract

Holder for transporting, displaying and opening bivalve comprises a plate (4) which can be in the shape of a dish or box, equipped with a central support (5) in the form of a hollow tube with at least one lengthwise slot (6). A wire (2) is inserted into each bivalve (1) and passed round its adductor muscle, with the ends of the wire connected to a gripper (3) in the form of a disc, ball or ring which fits inside the support. A required number of shellfish is stacked on the plate with their grippers inside the support. The upper open end of the support is fitted with a cap, which can incorporate a handle, and the assembly can then be packaged in a net or thermo-shrink plastic film. The bivalves are opened when required for consumption by holding the support and pulling each bivalve so that the wire opens its shell and cuts through the adductor muscle.
