Ergonomic and aerodynamic bag for bicycle
The present invention relates to a bicycle bag
The saddlebags we know today are designed and made to be mounted either on the luggage rack, or at a place in the frame likely to disturb the cyclist as little as possible.
We are now witnessing the appearance of hiking, racing or competition bikes, which are made more efficient because of the technological evolutions on materials, structures and accessories. The mudguards and luggage racks have thus been generally removed, so that a bicycle of this type is in the simplest form having only a frame, a fork, a handlebar, a saddle, wheels , a pedal and a propulsion device more or less sophisticated.
It is conceivable then that the locations for the mounting of a bag are clearly limited especially since it is necessary to take into account those already intended for the frame to various accessories such as: canister pump, brakes, lighting and shifters. The possible locations are such that the saddlebags can only be of reduced volume if they must not hinder the movements of the cyclist or, if these saddlebags are of greater volume, they are placed in places likely to oppose a significant air resistance or altering the aerodynamic characteristics of the bicycle-bike couple to the detriment of expected performance
So far and to the Applicant's knowledge, the free available volume of the column trunk located immediately below the seat of a bicycle and between the thighs of a cylist, has never been rationally used or operated to house a bag without hindering or hindering the pedaling movements and without significantly modifying the aerodynamic characteristics of the bicycle itself and of the cycling-bicycle couple in motion
The present invention precisely covers such a bag designed and made to obtain this result
For this purpose, the bag according to the invention is therefore essentially characterized by the fact that the envelope that constitutes it fits into the column trunk located immediately below the saddle of a bicycle and delimits a volume that presents itself with a general profile such that its upper wall contains at least the profile of said seat seen in plan, that its side walls are adapted to be located at most substantially in the vertical planes parallel to the vertical axis of the seat tube and tangent to the curves of the outline of said saddle, that its front face is limited to the maximum by the line of intersection of said lateral planes that the bottom wall is maximally adapted to correspond to the horizontal plane defined by the two parallel axes which are that of the hub of the wheel rear of a bicycle and that of the pedal of the latter and that the rear wall is adapted to be substantially contained in the plane tangent to the contou r back of said saddle and parallel to said longitudinal axis of said tube or in any plane parallel to said plane
According to another characteristic, the above volume may itself be formed of two volumes, one in front of said seat tube and the other behind this tube.
Advantageously, the side walls of the volume or volumes defined above are formed to correspond to the success of the convex and concave vertical planes generated by a right generatrix moving parallel to said seat tube following the outer contour of said saddle
More particularly, said side walls are generated as above by a generatrix affecting the general curved shape reproducing that of the inner face of the thigh of a cyclist sitting on said saddle and pedaling
Also advantageous
~ the front face of a bag according to the invention adjacent to the intersection line as defined above may have a nose-shaped area similar to the saddle but slightly smaller width to the latter
the lower wall is remote from the upper wall so as to be substantially in the theoretical plane that would be tangent to the rear wheel and the large plate of the pedal of a bicycle. It may also, according to a variant, be part of the two theoretical horizontal planes intersecting with each other and respectively tangent to the upper part of the frame of said bicycle and the other to its stays
According to other characteristics
~ the main general volume as defined above can be completed or extended by a second volume called rear bag itself defined by an anterior wall having two faces, one located above the plane of the saddle and which merges with the rear wall of said main general volume and the other located above the plane of this saddle and which is substantially vertical, by substantially vertical side walls, by a bottom wall limited at most by the contour of the rear wheel of the bicycle and the elements that hold it such as shrouds or what takes their place, by an upper wall horizontal or inclined at an angle of between about 1 "and 45, and finally by a rear wall formed by the plane intersecting the plane of the wall superior and that of the lower wall
According to other characteristics of this second volume
~ the posterior wall is advantageously limited to the rearmost upright of the rear wheel of the bicycle
the distance separating said lateral walls advantageously corresponds to the estimated average width of the buttocks and legs of a cyclist sitting on his saddle
Of course, a bag according to the invention with or without a second complementary volume comprises any attachment means capable of adapting on the one hand to the reinforcement elements of a saddle and, on the other hand to the connecting tube or column. said saddle in the frame of a bicycle
Similarly such a bag has any means of access to its internal volume which can be compartmentalized at will
Moreover, it may be made of any flexible, semi-rigid or rigid material and it may be obtained by folding, molding assembly or by any technique belonging to the field of leather goods, "luggage", packaging and clothing. any speakers or any volumes easily transportable etc
Other features and advantages of the invention will become more clearly apparent from the following description given with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
FIG. 1 schematically illustrates a cyclist on the saddle of his machine, of which only the rear part has been represented with a certain number of elements constituting it. By convention it is estimated for the simplification of the description that the plans contained therein are all perpendicular or parallel to the plane of the frame which includes its constituent elements as well as the wheels and the pedals

FIG. 5 represents in elevation and hatching a section of the underutilized zone at the present time for housing a bag. A bag according to the invention is illustrated in dashed lines according to two possible variants under the saddle. a cycle of which only the back of the frame has been represented, the stretched leg of a cyclist also included in this zone
FIG. 6 is a perspective view of a saddle and a bag according to the invention, main volume plus rear volume according to the envelope volume defined in FIG. 2 by the planes G and K.
FIG. 7 is a plan view of a bag according to the invention, with a phantom-shaped cut of the buttocks and thighs of a cyclist seated on a saddle comprising such a bag.
FIG. 8 represents the back view of a cyclist who is stopped and in contact with a saddle and
FIG. 9 represents the underside of a saddle with the materialization of the congestion of the muscles of the thigh
Referring to these figures, FIGS. 1 and 2 show a rear cycle frame on which there are a number of planes intended to materialize the envelope volume of a bag according to the invention.
This volume is limited to its upper part by the plane S which includes the upper part of the saddle, laterally by the planes P1 and P2 tangential to the lateral faces of the saddle and also tangent to the inner faces of the thighs in particular and the legs in general , forward by the section of the planes P1 and P2 along a line Q that can, by experiment, situerson the front of the large plateau and passing through the axis of the knee raised leg, the lower part by the plane O tangent at the fork 4 and passing through the bottom bracket, back by the plane W tangent to the rear part of the saddle as well as to the posterior faces of the thighs. Preferably we will limit the lower face of the envelope volume to be used in the plane K which is tangent to the wheel R and to the large plate 4a. It will also be noted that this lower face may according to an advantageous variant be limited by planes such as G tangent to the upper part of the frame and H tangent to the ha ubans, it being understood that these plans are subject to different concepts of framework and also to the hazards of technological evolution or the very name of framework may fall into disuse. Other limits, although shematized, depending exclusively on functional anatomy human are perfectly defined and respond to various forms of saddles that deviate little volume inevitable envelope that the invention intends to exploit
To this main volume may be optionally added a complementary volume limited forward by the plane W and the plane I tangent to the buttocks of a cyclist C and intersecting the planes S and W along the line AB, laterally by the planes T1 and T2 tangents to the external faces of the thighs and also parallel to the plane of the frame, at the top by a plane D (which may be horizontal or inclined at an angle advantageously between approximately 1 "and 45", the latter angle being in general the one made by the back a cyclist looking for the best
Cx), downwards by the curve of the wheel that is brought back to a horizontal tangent plane F and backwards by any secant plane. 11 may for example be vertical tangent to the wheel R (plane X)
This posterior envelope volume as can be seen in Figures 3, 4, 5 and 7 is quite arbitrary unlike the previous one, its only constraint being related to its anterior face itself dependent on the previous keystone volume of this invention Thus, in FIG. 4, an interesting aspect of the main volume according to the invention can be seen divided into two antisubes U1 and U2, located in front of the seat tube 7> where the available space is the smallest and which can be seen the vertex located between the thighs E of the cyclist in Figure 7 and U 2 including the seat tube and the most "anatomical" zone related to the dynamics of the thighs resulting in a real shape slightly different simplifying planes used. Indeed, in Figure 8 we see a cyclist C rear three-quarter which shows that the thighs are modeled on the shape of the saddle making an internal curve M more or less pronounced but still leaving a space that can be used that Figure 9 illustrates better by showing the appearance of the right half of the under saddle space which by its tuliped appearance is reminiscent of the bow of a ship
FIG. 5 shows the rear part of a frame with the frame elements 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and wheel R. On this frame is mounted, in the usual way, a saddle 6, by its tube 7; this saddle delimits a volume already described elsewhere whose longitudinal section along an axis which is in the plane of the frame is shown hatched and carries the reference V. In this volume is also schematically schematically leg J stretched a cyclist whose foot is supported on a pedal 8.
At present, a bag, a can, a pump, brakes are fixed on the parts of the frame 1, 2, 3 and 5. The out-of-frame areas of the volume V are, on the other hand, little used and particularly the volume located directly below the saddle as shown for example in Bt of FIGS. 3, 5, 6, and 7
The bag according to the invention occupies this area well in such a way as not to interfere in any way and to not hinder the muscular dynamics of a cyclist while not significantly modifying the aerodynamic characteristics of the moving assembly.
The volume of the bag in question fits well in the envelope volume already described and shown in fig 1, 2 and 3 occupying the saddle area whose total exploitation is difficult although perfectly defined by the anatomy of the average of cyclists, so that the concept of this bag is not absolutely related to a type of saddle even if one of these types was used to facilitate the descriptions. Indeed the evocation of theoretical volumes U1, U2
U3 of Figure 4 could succinctly suffice without mentioning the presence of a saddle. In fact, practically, there is a saddle even if it is integrated into the bag. This bag will be defined as a volume delimited in its widest acceptance mainly by the saddle 6 and the area above the frame and the wheel according to plans G, H, or K already defined. This bag as shown on the Figures by way of example and in particular in Figures 5 and 6 can be considered as having a main anterior volume B1 and a possible additional posterior volume B2 .The volume B1 is limited: at the top by the saddle 6 laterally by a surface created by a generatrix supported from point 11 to point 13 and point 9 to point 14 on the lateral contour 10 of said saddle and parallel to the seat tube or at least to the plane respecting the curve of the thighs of Figure 8 as shown in FIG. 9, forward at least by a surface created by the same generator resting from point 9 to point II on the spout 12 of the seat 6, back by the plane W tangent to the leg J in the extended position e t at the edge 16 between points 13 and 14 limiting the maximum width L3 of this main volume. Advantageously, the bag according to the invention will have this width L2 slightly lower
As for the minimum width, this (L4) will advantageously be slightly less than the width (L1) of the spout of the saddle 12. The lower base of this volume B1 may be that (26) based on the upper contour of the frame members (1, 5) (G, H planes). As for the volume B2, this is limited: forward by W common to B1 and by I, (these two planes intersect along a straight line AB which is on S, plane which itself determines the lower volumes H1 and upper H2); bottom by F (see figure I); laterally by T1 and
T2; above by D; back by X. The theoretical volume thus determined will serve as an envelope for constructions adapted to various functions, at least one of which is linked to an aerodynamic search of which FIGS. 5 and 7 provide a glimpse. It is also certain that the line AB as well as plans W and I are only for convenience of description, and in fact the area concerned is adapted to a dynamic average anatomy as seen in Figure 7
Of course a bag made to occupy the available volume below a saddle cycle with dimensions determined in particular in width taking into account the anatomical dimensions of a cyclist so as not to interfere with the latter in his movements as described above. above will comprise means of access to its internal volume, means not shown in the drawings
for the sake of understanding. The fastening means directly under the saddle have also not been represented for the same reason.
On prévoira à l'extérieur de cette sacoche un certain nombre d'emplacements destinés à fixer des accessoires tels qu' éclairage garde-boue ,catadioptre etc...These means may affect at least one of the supporting elements of the saddle on the one hand and / or at least the tube or the column 7 connecting it to the frame of the bicycle
It is also easy to understand that this internal volume can be compartmentalized in order to best use it according to the needs can be provided for example a compartment for various objects, and one or more compartments for solid food products or liquids etc.
On the outside of this bag will be provided a number of locations for attaching accessories such as fender lighting, reflector etc ...
It should be noted that tests carried out in the wind tunnel with saddlebags having the profile and housed as we have seen above, have shown that there is neither additional resistance to advancement nor negative influence. significant on the drag
It goes without saying that the present invention has been described as purely explanatory and non-limiting and that any useful modification can be made in the field of equivalents without departing from its scope
