Abstract

Round, square, oval, and the like wick which separates into a number of components ending at a number of fuel containers, to form a number of flames, the top of which joins into a single flame. The present invention represents a wick for burners of lamp, lighter, torch (flare), and the like type containing a liquid fuel of alcohol, hydrocarbon, ketone, and the like type. This wick, preferably made of glass fibre for the production of flames of selected and varied colour(s), is separated into a number of components (1-2-3-4) by a separation (5-) in the top part (flame) of the wick, and by the fact that it immerses into 1-2-3-4- and the like fuel containers, which can contain different colouring salts. The flames produced will thus be juxtaposed in a circle, oval, square, rectangle, and the like. They will first be "independent" in their colour and will then join towards the top of the flames in order for them now to constitute only a single, moiré, mixed and, finally, combined flame.

with liquid fuel such as alcohol, hydro-carbides, ketones, etc. This wick, preferably made of fiberglass for the production of flames of selected and varied colors, separates into several elements ( 1-2-3-4- fig. 1,2, 3) by a separation (5- fig. 1, 2,3) in the upper part (flame) of the wick, and by the fact that it plunges into 1-2-3-4-etc--. fuel containers (la-lb-lcld- fig. 3), which may contain different coloring salts. The flames produced will thus be juxtaposed in the round, oval, square, rectangle, etc.

They will first be "autonomous" in their color, then will melt towards the top of the flames, so as to form only one, moiré, mixed and, finally, synthetic.

The present invention constitutes an additive to patent 89-10872 of August 14, 1989 by the same authors, but widens the applications in terms of the wick (s) and the container (s) of fuel (s) .

The present invention is intended to make it possible to symbolize in various burners (lighters, torches, lamps, etc.) juxtaposed flames of different colors, finally melting into one.

Take for example the Olympic Games: the 5 rings are symbolized, for the 5 continents, by a primary color: blue-red-yellow-green, + black.

This example being, it will be understood, illustrative and in no way limitative, as regards the present invention and that to which it relates, comnie exposed above.

Each 'part' (square, round, quarter of oval hoop, etc.) of wick (preferably fiberglass for colors), will be separated in the containers, then at the outlet (fig.2) until at a variable height totally dependent on the effect of mixing the colors of flame that we want to produce: if we want the separation of the (flames of) colors to be prolonged, the separation 5- fig. 1, 2, 3 ) will be high.

If you want the flames to mix earlier, this separation (5 fig.1,2,3) will be low.

 It is above the limit of the locks (1-2-3-4 fiv 1,2,3) and the separation (5 fig. 1,2,3) that the mixing of the flames so that, in the "high" part, they no longer form a single synthetic color. We gave as an example the five Olympic colors: the fifth being black, impossible to obtain in flame, the separation (5 fig.2,3) could be black, complementing the red-yellow-blue-green flames.

Although the device / quadruple wick + separation, main object of the present invention, can be used in liquid fuel burners whatever they are, as soon as they go into wicks by capillary action, it should be noted that alcohols , preferably pure, preferably methyl and preferably anhydrous, constitute a better fuel for obtaining flames of selected and varied colors: in fact, the coloring salts enter into solution in alcohols, not in hydro-carbides (or badly, in semi-suspension) and, moreover, the hydro-carbides badly burn the carbon molecules released, so there is an undesirable yellow coloring for most of the desired colors of flames, while with alcohols , the phenomenon is less or not present. It will also be necessary to choose preferably cotton and other fiberglass for the wick (s), avoiding those containing sodium, p or avoid the yellow coloring that emerges.

According to the principle long applied to kerosene or oil lamps, with a variable height flame, it is possible to install a flame height variator (6- fig. 2), located along the device (5- fig. 1, 2,3) separator of 4 (4 being quoted by way of nonlimiting example, it will have been understood, because one can multiply or divide according to needs) parts of wick (s). There will naturally be, by a cross joint, absolute sealing along the wick separator (5- fig. 1,2,3), with regard to (here shown) 4 containers in which (1-2-3 -4- fig.1,2,3) dip or dip the 4 parts of wick and which contain combustible compositions comprising different salts producing flames of different colors.

It will also be necessary to provide on the wick support (s) (1- fig.4) a groove (2- fig.4) which can receive over its entire circumference or its square, or its oval, etc ... a bead (4- fig.4) also integral, protruding inside the tight closing cover (3- fig.4), the whole being used to avoid the evaporation of alcohol (or any other fuel / fuel), when the lighter / torch / lamp / etc ... is not used.

This sealing principle is already the subject of patent 89-10872 I.N.P.I. of August 14, 89 by the same authors. It is recalled here for the clarity of the description.

Claims (5)

RESELL I CAT IONS 1) Devices allowing the manufacture and the use of several wicks of various shapes, juxtaposed in round-oval-square-etc .. around a support / separation preferably central, to produce in liquid fuel burners, flames juxtaposed then merged, of selected and varied colors. 2) Devices according to claim 1, characterized in that several sections of wicks for lamps or torches or lighters, etc ... with liquid combustible fuels, separated by a flame retardant element preferably central, removable in height to adjust the height of the flames (or, again, fixed), will produce, when lit, separate flames, then - while going up along the said - gradually mixing, to form only one, of synthesis (1- 2-3- 4-5- fig.1,2,3) 3) Device according to claims I and 2, characterized in that each of these sections (or parts) of wick (s), soak in separate containers (1a-2a- 3a-4a- fig.  3), sealed against one another, to supply fuel by capillary action, in order to each produce a flame of chosen and desired color, as a function of the additive coloring salts in solution (or suspension) in each of the fuels. To obtain pure colored flames, we will rather choose alcohols, preferably methyl, anhydrous and pure, and fiberglass wicks, preferably sodium-free, to avoid color interference (sodium = yellow, hydro-carbides = yellow also) not wanted. 4) Devices according to claims 1, 2 and 3, characterized in that the wick support (preferably, but the sealing can be conceived elsewhere), will receive a groove (2- fig. 4) which itself will receive a gasket on the entire periphery (4- fig. 4) located on the protective cover (s), above the height adjustment device (6- fig. 3), unless the reverse (groove on the hood, bead on the wick support). This system, described here without limitation, can be replaced by a screw thread, a hermetic stamping or any other waterproof system. 5) Application device according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the device which is the subject of the present invention can be installed in or on any burner with a fuel-fuel container rising along all types of wicks by capillary action , to produce, when lit, flames.
