Description

DEVICE FOR RECOVERING LIQUID RESIDUES, FOR SINGLE USE
The invention relates to a device for recovering liquid residues, for single use, mainly intended for aspirating and collecting the residues to be eliminated from a patient, during a surgical operation or during a post-operative period.

A type of single-use recovery device is known, of the kind mentioned above and mainly consisting of a relatively rigid cover on the underside of which a flexible bag is hermetically connected, by welding. The cover has an inlet for said residues, communicating with the bag and intended to be connected by a flexible hose, to a recovery probe placed to aspirate the residues on the patient. Furthermore, a suction pipe also opening into the flexible bag is intended to be connected to a vacuum source making it possible to develop a suction effect sufficient to transfer the residues from the probe to the flexible bag.

This whole set is intended to be thrown away when the pocket is full. The cover is placed on a jar or similar rigid container during its period of use. The residues are thus collected in the pocket and not in the jar, which therefore no longer needs to be cleaned and sterilized after each use. However, the depression must be balanced on both sides of the flexible bag, failing which the latter would curl up on itself and could not accommodate the residues. It has been proposed to laterally pierce the wall of the jar to connect a suction duct to it. However, this solution leads to changing all the jars in a hospital. The invention avoids this drawback
In this spirit, the invention relates more particularly to a device for recovering liquid residues, for single use, in particular for use in a medical environment, of the type comprising a relatively rigid cover in which an inlet for said residues and a conduit are defined. suction intended to be connected to a vacuum source as well as a flexible bag hermetically connected to the underside of said cover, this face having an annular rim shaped to fit on a jar or similar rigid container, during use , characterized in that said cover is provided with an additional suction duct opening on said lower face outside of said flexible pocket internally with respect to said annular rim.

According to a preferred embodiment, the two aforementioned suction conduits are combined in the structure of said cover to be connected to the same source of vacuum.

The invention will be better understood and other advantages thereof will appear more clearly in the light of the following description of an embodiment of a device in accordance with its principle, given by way of example and made with reference to the attached drawing in which:
- Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of the recovery device in the use position; and
- Figure 2 is a top view of the cover of this device.

Referring to the drawing, the recovery device 11 according to the invention consists of a relatively rigid cover 12 of molded plastic and a flexible pocket, also of plastic, hermetically connected by a weld 14 to the underside 15 of said cover. The latter has the general shape of a disc. The assembly is intended to adapt, during use, to a jar 16 or similar rigid container, preferably also made of plastic. To do this, the underside 15 of the cover is shaped with an annular rim 18 defining a groove of shape and dimensions allowing the fitting of said cover on the opening of the jar. The fitting is such that the contact between the cover and the jar is as airtight as possible. An inlet 20 shaped as a connection piece is defined on the cover. It is intended to be connected by a flexible conduit to a probe or similar suction means placed on the patient or used by a surgeon during his intervention. This inlet opens into the pocket 13. In addition, a suction duct 22 is defined radially in the cover 12 and opens through a hole 23, perpendicular, in the pocket 13. This suction duct is intended to be connected to a vacuum source, not shown, responsible for maintaining a sufficient vacuum in the bag 13, to allow the suction of the residues which are collected therein. The suction duct and more particularly the hole 23 communicates with the pocket 13 by means of a safety mechanism 25 forming a float shutter. This mechanism consists of a float 26 sliding on a fixed axis 27 located in the axial extension of the hole 23. The float carries at its upper part an O-ring 28 making it possible to close the hole 23 when the quantity of residues recovered reaches a predetermined level.

The aspiration is then interrupted and the recovery device is changed.

According to an important characteristic of the invention, the cover is provided with an additional suction duct opening on said lower face 15 outside said flexible pocket 13 internally with respect to said annular rim 18. FIG. 2 shows that the internal limit the annular rim 18 is distinct from the connection perimeter (weld 14) of the pocket 13 to the internal face of the cover 12. It is between these two limits that the additional suction duct opens which is in communication with the internal space from the jar 16, during the period of use. In fact, in the example shown, the two cited suction ducts are combined and said additional suction duct is defined by a part of the duct 22. A hole 29 communicating with the duct 22 opens on the internal face of the cover between the two limits defined above of said annular rim 18 on the one hand and of the connection perimeter defined by the weld 14, on the other hand.

A vacuum can thus be created in the jar 16, which keeps the bag 13 in contact with the internal walls of said jar.
