Abstract

The present invention relates to a device for locking a housing with a cover forming, for example, a storage compartment for a motor vehicle. This device essentially comprises two bolts 6 respectively secured to the ends of an elongate support 9 slidably mounted in a guide element 10 fixed to the dashboard of a vehicle and carrying at one of its ends, the one closest to the station. for driving the vehicle, a lever 11 capable of driving the elongated support 9 in translation in the guide element 10 to unlock the cover of a storage compartment mounted in a housing made in the dashboard of the vehicle. This device allows the locking of a storage compartment cover mounted on the dashboard of any passenger or utility vehicle.

Description

The present invention essentially relates to a device for

  locking of a shoemaker with cover which can constitute, for example, a storage compartment

for motor vehicle.

  Various locking systems for the storage compartments provided on the boards have already been proposed.

on board motor vehicles.

  These systems can be for example a button with key operating by pressure or by rotation, or even a handle which can actuate one or more bolts or hooks allowing the locking of the cover.

  But, generally, these systems cannot be easily maneuvered by the driver because they are located too far from the driving position and, moreover, the locking provided by these systems does not always allow the cover which can have relatively large dimensions, to tackle properly on

  the edge of the storage compartment opening.

  The present invention aims to remedy in particular the above drawbacks in proposadt a locking system whose operating member is ergonomically placed, close to the conductor and which, because of its special mechanical design, allows the cover, when it is closed, apply tightly to the opening of the storage compartment and therefore integrate or flush perfectly with the

vehicle dashboard.

  To this end, the subject of the invention is a device for locking a shoemaker with cover forming, for example, storage pockets for a motor vehicle and of the type comprising at least one bolt actuated by a lever to allow the locking of the cover on the shoemaker or its unlocking, characterized by two bolts respectively secured to the ends of an elongated support mounted to slide in a fixed guide element carrying at one of its ends, closest to the driving position of the vehicle, said lever which is capable of drive the elongated support in translation in the guide element to unlock the cover. According to another characteristic of this device, the above-mentioned fixed guide element comprises a part forming a rail in which the above-mentioned elongated support is retained by retaining projections allowing mounting, by elasticity, and a spring is arranged in the rail between said element and said support for constantly reminding the latter in position of

locking bolts.

  According to yet another characteristic of the invention, the aforementioned lever is pivotally mounted on the guide element and carries on its inner face a similar cu tab capable of cooperating with a stop belonging to a link articulated on one end of the elongated support, to control the translation of the

  elongated support in this element.

  It will also be specified here that the aforementioned link is provided, at its end opposite to that articulated on the elongated support, with a light passed through by a lug whose orientation allows or not the actuation of the link, and therefore of the support

  elongated, via the joystick.

  According to one embodiment, the aforementioned lug is fixed and belongs to a plug-shaped part fixed to the aforementioned guide element in the vicinity of the lever. According to another embodiment, the aforementioned lug is integral with the cylinder of a lock controlled by a key and fixed on the guide element in the vicinity of the lever, so as to allow, by actuation of the key, either the cooperation of the lever tab with the connecting rod stop, i.e. the exhaust of this tab

  at the stop when the lever is pivoted.

  According to yet another characteristic of this invention, the aforementioned guide element is fixed to the dashboard of a vehicle and the two aforementioned bolts each pass through an orifice formed in the wall of the boot housing of a storage compartment in order to be able to cooperate with a

  keeper part provided under the cover.

  It will also be specified that each aforementioned orifice has a notch in which a rib provided can pass under each bolt during assembly.

  Thus, as will be described later, the bolts can somehow participate in the maintenance of the storage compartment on the dashboard of the vehicle, by the fact that the bolts will constantly remain in contact with the storage compartment and the relative position of the bolts and of

rod and bolts.

  Referring more particularly to Figures 1, 2 and 4, we see a storage compartment 1 mounted in an opening in the dashboard 2 of a vehicle and having a cover 3 hinged in 4 and ensuring the closing of the vacuum- pockets 1. The locking device 5 according to the invention, and clearly visible in FIGS. 3 to 12, is fixed to the dashboard 2, and comprises two bolts 6 capable of each passing through an opening 7 formed in a rim the of the wall of the storage compartment 1, so that said bolts 6 can come to hang or lock on a part forming a keeper 8 provided under the

cover 3 of the storage compartment 1.

  Referring in particular to FIGS. 3 to 6, it can be seen that this locking device, essentially consisting of plastic parts, essentially comprises an elongated support 9 slidably mounted in a fixed guide element 10 (also visible in FIG. 2), which element carries at one of its ends, closest to the driving position of the vehicle, a lever 11 pivotally mounted on the guide element 10 and capable of driving in translation the elongated support 9 in said guide element 10 to unlock the cover 3 of the storage compartment 1, that is to say, to release the strikes 8 the two bolts 6 respectively secured to the ends

of the elongated support 9.

  The fixed guide element 10 includes * persages 12 allowing its fixing by screws or the like 13 on the dashboard 2, as seen

in figure 2.

  Referring to FIG. 6, it can be seen that the lever or maneuvering pallet 11 is pivotally mounted around an axis 1 retained by yokes 14a on the front face of the guide element 10 fixed on the dashboard 2. A return spring of the

  lever 11 against the front face of the element 10.

  The handle 11 is provided on its inner face

  a tab 16 whose utility will be explained later.

  As can be clearly seen in FIGS. 5 and 6, the fixed guide element 10 comprises a rail-shaped part 17 in which the elongate support 9 is slidably retained by retaining projections 18

  allowing mounting by elasticity.

  We have shown in 19 in Figures 3 and 4 a spring arranged in the rail 17 between the element 10 and the support 9 to constantly remind the latter in

  bolt locking position 6.

  More specifically, the spring 19 is hooked by its ends on two lugs 20 belonging respectively to the element 10 and to the elongated support and

sliding 9.

  The tab 16 of the lever 11 can cooperate with a stop 21 belonging to a link 22 articulated on one end of the elongated support 9, so as to control the translation of this support in the rail 17 of

the fixed guide element 10.

  There is shown at 23 in FIG. 6 a lug secured to one end of the elongated support 9 and on

  which is articulated the end 24 of the rod 22.

  At its end opposite that 24 articulated on the elongated support 9, the link 22 has a slot 25 through which a lug which will be described in detail below, and whose orientation allows or not the actuation of the link 22 and therefore support

  elongated 9 by the tab 16 of the pivoting lever 11.

  The fixed guide element 10 comprises, in the vicinity of the lever 11, an opening 26 in which can be mounted either a latch 27, or a

plug-shaped part 28.

  This plug-shaped part 28 comprises a finger or pin 29 towards the rear which belongs to said part and which passes through the lumen 25 of the

  link 22 articulated on the elongated support 9.

  The latch 27 which can be controlled by a key (not shown) is provided with a cylinder of which is attached a finger or lug 30 which can also pass through the lumen 25 of the rod 22, but which can be driven in rotation by the key to make

pivot said link.

  In the case where the part 28 is mounted in the opening 26 of the fixed guide element 10, there will be no possible condemnation of the movement of the elongated support 9 in the element 10, and the operation will be the

  next referring to figure 12.

  The driver, within easy reach of which the lever 11 is located, will be able to pull this lever towards him, so that said lever will pivot and the tab 16 will push the stop 21 of the link 22, which, as will be understood, will actuate the elongate support 9 carrying the bolts 6 to cause unlocking, the rod remaining maintained and guided by the lug 29 passing through the lumen 25 formed in said rod. It is also understood here that once the bolts 6 have been unlocked, the bar or the elongated support 9 will automatically return to the initial position, thanks to the spring.

  In the case where the lock 27 is used, the operation is as follows, referring to the figures

and 11.

  When the lock 27 is in the unlocking position of the bolts 6 as illustrated in FIG. 10, that is to say when the lug 30 is in the position visible in the said figure, it is understood that by actuating the lever 11, the tab 16 of this lever can cooperate with the stop 21 of the rod 22 to actuate the elongated support 9 and unlock the bolts 6. On the other hand, as seen in FIG. 11, if the lock has been actuated with the key so that the cylinder of this lock performs a quarter turn, the link 22, driven by the lug 30, will take the inclined position visible in FIG. 11. This means that, in this position of the link 22 , when the lever 11 is actuated, it will act in a way in a vacuum, since the tab 16 cannot act on

the stop 21 of said link.

  It is therefore understood that the lever 11 will pivot around its axis 14 in all cases, but if the lock 27 is in the "open" position (FIG. 10), it will command the unlocking of the cover 3 of the storage compartment 1, whereas if the lock is in the "closed" position (figure 11), the

  rod 22 will prevent the lever 11 from acting.

  It therefore appears from the description of the

  operation which precedes that the locking device according to this invention can be conveniently equipped with a latch for locking the bolts or not, and this simply by means of two interchangeable parts 27, 28 which can be easily fixed

on the fixed guide element 10.

  The two bolts 6, as best seen in Figure 7 each have a hook shape, and under each bolt is provided a rib 31 which extends only over a part of the length of the bolt to leave between the root of the bolt and the end of the rib 31, a

step 32.

  This rib 31 is useful for mounting the storage compartment 1 on the dashboard 2, as will be explained below. We saw at the beginning of this

  description that the locking device 5 according to

  this invention was first of all fixed on the dashboard 2. After this operation, the storage compartment 1 and cover 3 assembly is mounted on the dashboard 2, so that the bolts 6 pass through holes 7

  formed in the rim 1 of the storage compartment 1.

  Referring to Figures 8 and 9, it can be seen that the orifices 7 each have a notch 33 directed downwards and through which the rib 31 of the bolts 6 can pass. More specifically, according to the example shown, the orifices 7 have a rectangular shape and the notch 33, in front view, that is to say from the passenger seat of the vehicle, is

located at the bottom right.

  The storage compartment 1 being in the insertion position in its housing made in the dashboard 2, the elongated support 9 is pushed to the right by acting on one of the bolts 6, so that the rib 31 will be found opposite the notch 33, and the bolt 6 can cross the orifice 7. This is what we see on the

figure 8.

  When the storage compartment 1 is in the fully inserted position in its housing, the bolts 6, by their step 32, can escape the edge of the orifice 7 and the elongated support 9 will be automatically recalled to the left by the spring 19. Thus , by action on the lever 11, the bolts 6 can struggle in the opening 7 as seen in Figure 9, and this outside of the notch 33. In other words, we acted by pushing to the right on the bolts 6 for carrying out the assembly, so that they are in a position corresponding to the notch 33, which is located beyond the limit stroke of the bolts which can be obtained by the lever 11 by pivoting. Stop means are provided to limit the pivoting movement of the lever 11 and therefore the stroke of the bolts. These means can be constituted, as seen in Figure 6, either by a boss 50 on the handle 11, which comes into contact with the guide element 10 during the movement of the handle, or by ribs 51 provided on the element

  and somehow extending the yokes 14a.

  The advantage of the ribs 31 is that they make it possible to keep the bolts 6 constantly in contact with the wall or rim 1a of the storage compartment 1. The relative position of the bolts 6 and of the storage compartment 1 is constant, and it is likewise the relative position

  of the cover 3 and of the storage compartment in the closed position.

  We understand of course the description which

  precedes that the locking of the cover 3 is effected simultaneously by the two bolts 6 cooperating with the strikes 8 on the cover and being somehow at the two ends of this cover which thus applies and is positioned perfectly in the flush position on the dashboard 2. It will also be added here that the locking device according to the invention, because of its mechanical simplicity, has excellent operating reliability and is furthermore inexpensive since all the parts making it up can be

made of plastic.

  Of course, the invention is in no way limited to the embodiment described and illustrated which has not

was given only as an example.

  This is how a shock absorber spring could be provided between the storage pockets and the cover.

  The bolts 6 could have a shape somewhat different from that shown in the drawings. This means that the invention includes all the technical equivalents of the means described and their combinations if these are carried out according to

his mind.

Device according to claim 1, characterized in that the fixed guide element (10) comprises a rail-forming part (17) in which the aforementioned elongated support (9) is retained by retaining projections (18) allowing a elastic mounting, and a spring (19) is arranged in the rail (17) between said element (10) and said support (9) to constantly recall the latter in the locked position of the

bolts (6).

  3. Device according to claim 1 or 2, characterized in that the aforementioned lever (11) is pivotally mounted on the guide element (10) and carries on its inner face a tab or the like (16) capable of cooperating with a stop (21) belonging to a link (22) articulated (23) on one end of the elongated support (9), for controlling the translation of this elongated support

in the guide element (10).

  4. Device according to one of claims 1

  to 3, characterized in that the aforementioned link (22) is provided, at its end opposite to that (24) articulated on the elongated support, with a lumen (25) through which a

  lug (29, 30) whose orientation allows or not the actuation of the link (22) and therefore of the support

  elongated (9), by means of the lever (11).

  5. Device according to claim 4, characterized in that the aforementioned lug (29) is fixed and belongs to a plug-shaped part (28) fixed on the guide element (10) in the vicinity of the lever (11 ). 6. Device according to claim 4, characterized in that the aforementioned lug (30) is integral with the cylinder of a latch (27) controlled by a key and fixed on the guide element (10) in the vicinity of the lever (11), so as to allow, by actuation of the key, the cooperation of the tab (16) of the lever (11) with the stop (21) of the link (22), or the exhaust of the tab (16 ) at the stop (21), when

pivoting of said lever.

  7. Device according to one of claims

  above, characterized in that the aforementioned guide element (10) is fixed to the dashboard (2) of a vehicle, and the two aforementioned bolts (6) each pass through an orifice (7) formed in the wall of the bootmaker of a storage compartment (1) to be able to cooperate with a

  keeper part (8) provided under the cover (3).

  8. Device according to claim 7, characterized in that each aforesaid orifice (7) has a notch (33) in which a rib (31) can pass passing under each bolt (6) during the mounting of the storage compartment ( 1) on the dashboard (2) of the

vehicle.
