Abstract

The present invention relates to a safety device for opening a cover or a lid as well as to a machine for packaging containers using this device. This device essentially comprises optical fibres 5 housed respectively in the manoeuvring handles 6 of a series of covers 3, whilst a radiation emitter 7 and a detector 8 for this radiation which are joined to a fixed element or framework 1 are arranged respectively at each end of the series of optical fibres 5. This device may particularly equip a machine for automatically packaging cups which are to contain a food substance.
