Abstract
Description
BALISE ROUTIERE OU AUTOROUTIERE, NOTAMMENT POUR LA SIGNALISATION D'UN
EMBRANCHEMENT.ROAD OR MOTORIZED BEACON, IN PARTICULAR FOR THE SIGNALING OF A
BRANCH.
The invention relates to a road or highway beacon, of the type more particularly intended to be placed at road junctions such as in particular the outlets of highways or connecting ways between two roads not intersecting at level. The invention relates more particularly to a new type of beacon, easy to implement and easy to manufacture and inexpensive, this beacon is also without dancing for motorists in case of accident.
A beacon of the kind mentioned above is known, whose front wall is approximately in the shape of a ship's bow, which front wall is combined with a sort of tank open at its upper part, inside which a ballast, such as sand. Such a device is described in French Patent No. 2,574,832
Although fulfilling its function, this device has disadvantages due to its very structure. In the first place, this beacon lacks structurally rigidity, which can only be compensated by increasing the thickness of the walls. The increase in the overall mass then makes it a significant obstacle in the event of an accident, especially if the mass of sand is important. In addition, the rainwater can accumulate therein, which further increases the mass of the obstacle. The invention makes it possible to solve these disadvantages.
In this spirit, the invention essentially relates to a road or motorway beacon, particularly intended for the signaling of a road junction such as an exit or a connecting lane, characterized in that it mainly comprises a closed hollow terminal with a facade frontal convex whose lower part is shaped as a base also hollow, having a certain height and open to its face intended to rest on the ground, said base being provided with fixing holes and in that this terminal is optionally assembled to a massive base and heavy, concealed in said lower part forming the base.
Thus, the ballast constituted by said base is brought back to the ground level and is not strictly speaking a dangerous obstacle in itself, because it is located at a lower level than the bodywork of a motor vehicle. In addition, the hollow terminal is structurally very rigid, which allows to provide walls of lower thickness, all things equal. Rainwater can not enter or accumulate.
- la figure 1 est une vue en perspective éclatée des différents éléments de la balise;
- la figure 2 est une vue en élévation et de face de la partie essentielle de la balise;
- la figure 4 est une coupe IV-IV de la figure 2.The invention will be better understood and other advantages thereof will become more apparent in the light of the following description of a presently preferred embodiment of a beacon which conforms to its principle, given solely as a example and made with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which
- Figure 1 is an exploded perspective view of the various elements of the tag;
- Figure 2 is an elevational view and front of the essential part of the tag;
FIG. 3 is a section III-III of FIG. 2; and
FIG. 4 is a section IV-IV of FIG.
Referring to the drawings, there is shown a road beacon comprising essentially a closed hollow terminal resting on the ground via a base 12 integrally molded with said hollow terminal. This base, also hollow, has meanwhile an opening 13 approximately rectangular and occupying substantially its entire face intended to be turned towards the ground. As a result, it is clear that the terminal-pedestal unit forms a rigid and hollow structure within which the rainwater can neither penetrate nor accumulate.
The assembly is made of plastic which, because of its structural rigidity, can have relatively thin walls, not constituting a dangerous obstacle for a vehicle, in the event of a collision. The general shape of the terminal is approximately that of a flattened "sugar loaf", that is to say that its horizontal section gradually decreases away from the base. As shown in Figure 4, such a section is essentially generated by two arcs of different radii, approximately defining a half-moon outline. This shape facilitates the demolding of the assembly. The base 12 is provided with three fixing holes 14. In the example described, the convex outer surface 15 of the hollow terminal comprises two colored triangles and / or retro-reflective 16, defining two opposite arrows directed towards the two possible directions d a road junction. Eventually, the corresponding triangular parts of the wall could be cut and replaced by translucent parts of the same shape, while lighting means would be housed inside the hollow terminal, protected from severe weather. These lighting means could advantageously be supplemented by a flashing device, known per se, for example semiconductor. The hollow terminal could also house, in this case, a battery of electrochemical accumulators for supplying the lighting means autonomously.
The road beacon according to the invention can be used as just described, being fixed to the ground by tie rods engaged through the holes 14. Preferably, however, the system is completed by a massive base and 18, in the form of substantially rectanular plate, of suitable dimensions to be housed in the thickness of the hollow base 12. Such a base comprises holes 19 corresponding to the holes 14 of the base and provided with portions or threaded elements, for the assembly of the beacon and the base, by means of screws. After assembly, the tag thus "capping" the base, which considerably lowers the center of gravity of the assembly, which allows to place it on the ground at a chosen location. If necessary, the base can itself be ballasted by other heavy materials (stones found on site, for example) which are then hidden inside the hollow terminal and further increase the stability of the set .
Alternatively, the base may comprise vertically protruding threaded rod sections and arranged to be engaged in the holes 14, the assembly then being effected by means of nuts. The base can be metal or concrete, or any other heavy material and cost effective.
