Abstract

Prepn. of L-tryptophane from residual D,L-serine liquors comprises (a) adjusting the pH to 5.5-6.5; (b) adsorption of the serine content on an ion exchange resin (Na form) at 80-90 deg. C; (c) elution of the serine; (d) evapn. to obtain a concentrated serine soln.; (e) purificn. by chromatography with a strongly basic anion exchange resin; (f) conversion to tryptophane in the presence of indole using a suitable microbial cell suspension; and (g) isolation of the DL-tryptophane produced.
