Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a method for printing decorative patterns on blinds made of thin strips of wood assembled together by flexible links.
Such blinds are very well known, however the printing of decorative patterns on such supports poses many problems. Indeed, these blinds do not constitute a flat surface being made of wood and flexible links which form projections which oppose the use of a conventional printing process. In addition, wooden slats are not a good support for making prints.
The method according to the invention consists in depositing on at least one face of the blind at least one layer of an emulsion with vinyl or acrylic dispersion, to let it dry, then depositing on this layer, at least one layer of a polyurethane acrylic lacquer, let the lacquer harden and sublimation print on said face.
The invention will now be described in more detail with reference to a particular embodiment given by way of example only and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which
Figure 1, Figure 2 and Figure 3 illustrate the different phases of the process according to the invention
In Figure 1, there is shown a part of a blind 1 formed of a series of thin blades 2 which are assembled together in parallel by flexible links 4 which with said blades form a kind of weaving.
On one face 5 of the blind 1, an emulsion 7 is applied with vinyl or acrylic dispersions so as to form a base and also to avoid any sliding of the links along the blades 2 (FIG. 1).
This emulsion is allowed to dry for a period of time greater than a quarter of an hour.
The face 5 of the blind thus treated is then (see FIG. 2) coated with one or more layers of a two-component acrylic polyurethane lacquer 8
The blind is then left for several days so that the lacquer is completely hardened.
Separately on one side 10 of a transfer sheet 9, the drawing to be reproduced on the side 5 of the blind 1 was produced by any suitable method, this drawing being produced with sublimable inks.
The transfer sheet 9 is then applied by its face 10 provided with the design on the face 5 of the blind and these two elements are subjected to pressure and to the action of heat.
In Figure 3 there is shown, schematically, this last phase of the process.
The blind 1 and the transfer sheet 9 are inserted into a machine 11 formed from two endless bands 13 and 14. The bands 13 and 14 rotate at the same speed and are heated to a temperature of the order of 2000 to 2500.
At least the strip 13 is coated with a thickness of flexible and preferably slightly elastic material 15 so as to absorb the irregularities of the blind. This material can be felt, cellular rubber or the like.
On leaving the machine 11, the face 5 of the blind 1 received, by sublimation, the designs carried by the transfer sheet 9.
Of course, the invention is not limited to the mode of implementation which has just been described and shown. Many modifications of detail can be made without departing from the scope of the invention.
