Abstract

The flagstone slab is divided by grooves (1) forming joints into a number of small sections (2). These sections can be broken off from the main slab. The grooves can be filled with mortar, and where the sections are glazed the glazing can be removed at the grooves. At the groove edges, the slab surface can be chamfered or preferably radiused (5), and the thickness left at the grooves can be from 0.7 to 1.5mm. The grooves can be partly formed by pressing, the remainder being cut out after firing.

Description

The invention relates to a plate of tiles which is subdivided, by channels having the appearance of joints, into a number of smaller tiles. It also relates to a method of manufacturing this tile plate.

We know that these tiles are designed to reduce the work required for laying small tiles: it is enough to lay larger tiles and fewer in number to achieve, despite this, a coating of tiles which, due to the presence of channels imitating the joints seems to be made up of small tiles.

The object of the invention is, however, above all, to reduce the costs of manufacturing and selling small format tiles
This object is achieved, according to the invention, because, in a tile plate of the type initially defined, the tiles can be detached from the tile plate by breaking.

All the tiles contained in the tile plate are manufactured, packaged and sold as a single tile, with, only, if necessary, during manufacture, another operation which, however, takes full advantage of the savings obtained by the grouping the tiles into a tile plate. Breaking the tiles for installation requires only a helping hand.

It is possible, under these conditions, to manufacture, with shapes, dimensions and colors as varied as desired, tiles of small dimensions which, until now, for economic reasons, we do not could not envisage the production, within the framework of the normal tile dimensions of a manufacturing program, that is to say with the same presses, provided, where appropriate, with other punches, the same devices4 transport, if necessary the same varnishing installations, the same ovens with the same temperature regime, the same sorting and packaging installations and finally the same packaging material. In regards to.

The special formats which, under these conditions, can be produced in multiple ways, therefore offer a multiplicity of possibilities of particular decorations at the time of laying the tiles, for example for the realization of delimitations of bases, framing of sanitary fittings, mirrors, walls or floors or for many other applications.

The laying of tiles, too, can, under these conditions, require less work. Thus there is no longer any need, as before, to cut on the site special shapes for different works, because the invention makes it possible to supply the necessary pre-cut tiles. These tiles also offer the advantage of not having the cutting edge presented by the tiles cut on the site. In addition, the rest of the bottom of the channel which remains after the breaking of the tiles constitutes an ease of installation by allowing a spacing at the level of the joints.
One can also lay tile plates, incomplete or incomplete, but still containing a certain number of tiles, by associating them in general with tiles detached by breaking of identical tile plates.

In this case, it is preferable that the channels have a deep and structured structure which allows them to be filled with joint mortar. As a result, the intact tiles placed may have, between their tiles, the appearance of the normal appearance of joints.
In principle, the channels must have a sufficient depth so that the tiles can break off. To minimize the force required for this separation by breaking without making the tile plate too fragile, it is preferable to leave a residual thickness of 0.7 to 1.5 mm at the level of the channels, preferably from 0.9 to 1.2 min.

In principle also, it is necessary that the structure of the channels is such that, for the realization of joints between the tiles detached by breakage, it allows the introduction and the adhesion of the joint mortar.

Regarding the structure that the channels must have for the introduction of the joint mortar, it is, in addition to the shape of the transverse section of the channel, the adhesion of the mortar which is important.

To ensure this adhesion in the case of varnished tiles, the layer of varnish applied to the entire entire plate of tiles is removed at the level of the channels.

This is the complementary operation that was discussed above.

This operation is preferably carried out by notching the channels with at least: part of their depth.

In a particularly advantageous embodiment of the invention, the tile plates are made in such a way that during the production of the vices by compression of the ceramic raw material, the channels are made by compression up to a portion of their depth, and, on the rest of their depth, notched after varnishing firing or simple firing.

Thus, the pressure forming of the surface of the tiles can give oblique channel edges, preferably rounded, so that the notching of the channel does not give a sharp edge. The varnish covers the oblique or rounded part. We can achieve the same appearance as at the edge of a normal tile. However, the oblique or rounded part can also be produced in a more marked manner.

Toutes les colorations et décorations sont possibles. All colors and decorations are possible.

The invention is described below in more detail by means of exemplary embodiments with reference to the drawing.

Figure i is a perspective view of a blank of tile plate made by pressure.

Figure 2 is a perspective view of the corresponding final tile plate.

Figure 3 is a perspective view of tiles detached from the tile plate by casaure.

Figure 4 is a schematic view from above of another tile plate.

The tile plate shown in Figure 2 is subdivided by four channels 1 into five tiles 2.

In cross section, the channels i have a rectangular lower sector 3 and an upper sector 4 which widens upwards. The upper sector 4 which, while widening, comprises, at its transition zone with the surface of the tiles, oblique parts 5 produced by compression which already exist on the blank shown in FIG. These oblique parts 5 also exist over the entire edge of the pla qoe srreaux. The rectangular lower sector 3 of the channels 1 is, after complete cooking or when the tiles are produced by the simple cooking process, produced after cooking by notching by means of cutting discs.

The varnish covers the surfaces of the tiles and the oblique surfaces 5. At the bottom 6 which, as shown in FIG. 1, is located between the oblique parts 5 of the channels, the varnish was removed by notching the lower sectors 3 channels
Figure 3 shows the first two tiles from the left of Figure 2, broken apart. At the location of the breaks, the rest of the thickness situated below the channels 1 has remained in the form of parts 7 which protrude by half the width of the channel.

The plate of tiles represented by FIG. 4 comprises by way of example two tiles 8 of format 15 x 15 om, two trasngular tiles having half of this format and three tiles 10 of format 5 x 15 cm.
