Abstract

The ceramic tile is fabricated as a relatively large unit and has intermediate grooves (1). The grooves provide for the making of false joints at intervals corresponding to the institu jointing of smaller standard tiles. The tiles may be used as a surfacing to walls or floors. In a typical case the grooves (1) have a uniform shallow rectangular cross-section and subdivide a square tile into four equal squares (3). The width of the grooves (1) is equal to twice the edge margin (2) plus the width of an in situ joint. During fabrication the groove surfaces are specially coated so as to facilitate the removal of the glazing.
