Abstract

The blasting circuit of the main thyristor 10 with blocking gate, provided to control the current drawn through the source 1 into the load 3, such as a motor winding, includes, conventionally, a branch between anode and cathode, consisting of an inductor 12, a capacitor 13 and an auxiliary thyristor 14. According to the invention, the inductor 12 is in series with the load 3 and is saturated by the current which crosses the main thyristor. The capacitor 13 is charged to the source voltage, with its negative plate at the junction 15 between inductor 12 and load 3. To turn off the main thyristor 10, the auxiliary thyristor 14 is energised. The discharge from the capacitor 13 cancels out the current in the thyristor 10, the blocking of which is completed by drainage of the minority carriers through the gate and unsaturates the inductor 12 in order to delay the anode voltage rise of the thyristor 10.
